Hong Kong Ombudsman announces results of investigation into effectiveness of rodent prevention by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department
The Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, today (26 May) announced the completion of a direct investigation into the effectiveness of rodent prevention and control by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department ("FEHD"), identifying three areas for improvement in the FEHD’s work on rodent surveillance, rodent prevention and disinfestation, and application of rodent-related complaint data.

Victoria – In a report released today (31 May 2022), the Ombudsperson finds the Ministry of Children and Family Development acted unjustly when it failed to pass on federal disability benefits to grandparents caring for their granddaughter, an Indigenous girl living with mental and physical challenges.

Ombudsman’s Quarterly Review
The Chief Ombudsman, Peter Boshier, was in March elected as Second Vice President of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Mr Boshier has served on the board of the IOI, a global organisation made up of more than 200 independent ombudsman institutions from more than 100 countries, since 2016. The Ombudsman New Zealand has been a part of the IOI since its inception in 1978.

The Control Yuan publishes 2021 Annual Report
Recently, the Control Yuan (CY) published the 2021 Annual Report. For the whole of 2021, the CY received 14,403 people’s complaints; issued 244 investigation reports; passed 16 impeachment cases and 1 censure case; and proposed 78 corrective measures cases. The Annual Report also includes 6 case summaries, which are categorized into public expenditures, upholding discipline and safeguarding human rights.
