Learning and awareness raising are essential for improving gender equality
Gender equality is one of the fundamental principles of the European Union. However, despite the great progress that has been made in recent decades, gender gaps still exist today. In the labour market, women still remain predominant in lower-paid sectors, are under-represented in leading positions, and are also subjected to violence and harassment. "We need to eradicate the idea that it is permissible to encroach on women's rights," said Human Rights Ombudsman Peter Svetina on the occasion of International Women's Day, which is celebrated on 8 March.

Saskatchewan’s Public Interest Disclosure Commissioner, Mary McFadyen said, “I want to acknowledge the role of whistleblowers, particularly in the public sector, for having the courage to speak up if they think something is seriously wrong at work.”

Control Yuan organizes keynote speech on new citizen judges trial system
Among the people’s written complaints received by the Control Yuan (CY), cases regarding judicial and prison administration accounted for the largest number, as high as 39.1%. In order to get better understanding of the Citizen Judges Act, which will take effect in 2023, the CY invited the Judicial Yuan Criminal Department to come to the Control Yuan and to deliver a speech on the new citizen judges trial system.

IOI Delegation visits Hungarian-Ukrainian border
A delegation of the Board of Directors of the European Region of the IOI - International Ombudsman Institute, headed by Regional President and Ombudsman of Greece Andreas Pottakis and Board member and Ombudsman of Slovenia Peter Svetina, visited Hungary on 16 and 17 March. Ombudsman Thailand presents executive summary of Annual Report 2021
During the 2021 financial year, the Ombudsman received a total of 4,866 complaints. After fact-finding, decisions and recommendations to relevant government agencies were issued on 2,675 of these complaints. The remaining 2,191 complaints are still under investigation.
