Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsmen publishes English summary of Annual Report 2020-21
The Office of the Parliamentary Ombudsmen of Sweden has published the English version of its Annual Report 2020-21. During the financial year, almost 10,300 complaint cases were closed, which is about 900 more than in the previous year. Around 700 of these are estimated to have been wholly or partly related to the corona pandemic.

Chancellor’s year in review 2020/2021
The Annual Report 2021 of the Chancellor of Justice of Estonia is now available in English. The report covers the period from 1 September 2020 to 31 August 2021 and it gives an overview of the activities of the Chancellor of Justice in the areas such as the rule of law, the rights of the child, the rights of persons with disabilities, and many others.

Problems of early childhood education management of local administrative organisations
Early childhood education management is important because it inculcates essential skills for children’s living. Researches on education management over the past 20 years have shown, that the first 5 years of life are the critical period to form a foundation of human personality. The Office of the Ombudsman investigated early childhood developement centers and found significant shortcomings.

Ombudsperson voice criticism over reception conditions in Kybartai Foreigners’ Registration Centre
After a visit to Kybartai Foreigners’ Registration Center, the Head of the Seimas Ombudsmen’s Office, Erika Leonaitė, published an NPM report. The Seimas Ombudsperson concludes that all the conditions applicable to foreigners in Kybartai FRC are equivalent to inhuman or degrading treatment prohibited under the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment.

Complaints handling principles approved by the Assembly
On 19 January 2022, the Northern Ireland Assembly approved the complaints handling Statement of Principles from the Northern Ireland Public Servises Ombudsman (NIPSO). The six principles set out the basic approach public bodies should take when dealing with complaints from members of the public.
