ITALY | International Ombudsman community mourns passing of former Tuscany Ombudsman Lucia Franchini

It is with great sadness that the International Ombudsman Institute has learned of the passing of Lucia Franchini, former Ombudsman of Tuscany (Italy), who passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on 18 January 2022.

Ms Franchini was a member of the Tuscany Region Parliament for two terms (2000-2010). She was elected Ombudsman of the Tuscany Region in 2010, and held this position until 2017.

She was an outstanding Ombudsman, fully committed to the principles of a fair and transparent administration and passionately dedicated to upholding human rights and fundamental freedoms for the citizens in the region.

She was a good supporter of the international Ombudsman community and the exchange and shared learning among colleagues from around the world. She was a highly valued member of the IOI Board of Directors and greatly respected by her colleagues for her open and friendly nature and her professional presence and guidance.

The passing of Lucia Franchini is a great loss for the international Ombudsman community. Our thoughts and condolences got out to her family and friends. She will be greatly missed.
