Public Defender of Georgia Becomes Member of IOI Board of Directors
We are pleased to announce that on November 15, 2021, the Public Defender of Georgia, for the first time in the history of the Public Defender’s Office, has started fulfilling the duties of a member of the Board of Directors of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). The Public Defender’s Office will represent the European region in the Board. The Office was elected a member of the European region in 2019. The Board of Directors oversees the organization's activities and makes decisions about its future activities.

Control Yuan passes draft amendments to Provision of Control Act
On 12 October 2021, the Control Yuan passed the Draft Amendments to the Control Act, adding a special section to Chapter 5-1, “Exercise of the Powers and Functions of the National Human Rights Commission,” by enacting a special law, sending it to the Legislative Yuan for consideration on the same day.

Charging patients that have declined Covid-19 vaccine for “missed appointment”
The Parliamentary Ombudsman directs criticism towards Kalmar Regional Council for charging patients that have declined the covid-19 vaccine for not arriving to their scheduled appointment. If a patient, that has a booked appointment to receive vaccination against covid-19 has refused the vaccine that has been offered, Kalmar Regional Council has charged a fee for missed visits pursuant to chapter 17, section 1 of the Health and Medical Services Act.

Ombudsman publishes English version of Annual Report and NPM Report for 2020
The Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia is happy to announce that the Annual Report for 2020 and the Report on Implementation of the Tasks of the National Preventive Mechanism under the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment for 2020, are now available also in English language.

The Chancellor of Justice received the highest international recognition
The Chancellor of Justice received the A-status accreditation as a national human rights institution by the GANHRI Sub-Committee on Accreditation (SCA). The decision on accreditation was preceded by a submission of a comprehensive statement on the independence, mandate and composition of the institution of the Chancellor of Justice, and an oral hearing by the SCA in December last year.
