Statement on independence of Public Protector South Africa
The Public Protector South Africa, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, was suspended from office on 9 June 2022. The Public Protector has been a loyal and respected contributor to the IOI and its work for many years. On 22 June 2022, Syed Jamalud Din shah, Provincial Ombudsman, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa presented the Annual Report 2021 before the Hon’ble Governor (Acting), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Like the previous year, 2021 also faced the menace of corona virus resulting in lock down. Despite these hinderances coupled with some other restraining factors, the team worked with zeal and did their best to achieve the set targets.

Improved systemic protection against domestic violence
The Protector of Citizens determined that the Law on Prevention of Domestic Violence has brought improvements in the system of protection against violence in the family and in intimate partner relationships since the beginning of its implementation, but that there is room for additional improvements, primarily in the early response to this type of violence.
