The Ombudsman addressed an alert to the competent authorities after receiving various complaints from foreign citizens reporting difficulties encountered with services provided by the Institute of Social Security (ISS, IP) that are not taking into account the exceptional rules in force in relation to the regularity of their stay in national territory, thereby blocking access to various social benefits.

60th Anniversary of the System of Administrative Counselors
A ceremony of the 60th anniversary of the System of Administrative Counselors was held on 30 June 2022 in the presence of Crown Prince and Princess Akishino. The ceremony was held in order to re-acknowledge the importance of the role played by administrative counselors in connecting the public and the government, deepening the understanding of the system by the public, and promoting cooperation with local governments.

Ensure follow-up to Ombudswoman’s recommendations and the access to information
On 13 July 2022, the European Commission published its third annual Rule of Law Report, providing an overview of the trends in this area in the European Union. For the first time, the Report contains specific recommendations to member states, including Croatia. One of them calls for Croatia to ensure a more systematic follow-up to recommendations and information requests of the Ombudsperson.

Systemic Investigation on a Case of Cellular Tower Installation Project
The citizen in San Pa Tong Subdistrict Municipality, Chiangmai, had filed a complaint and requested the ombudsman to look into the performance of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunication Commission (NBTC), in regards to allowing a private company to install a cellular tower in a community area.

| New Secretary General Gaby Schwarz takes office
On 1 August 2022, Ms. Gaby Schwarz took office as the new Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Ms. Schwarz was sworn in as a member of the Austrian Ombudsman Board on 11 July 2022 and takes over the office of IOI Secretary General from her predecessor Werner Amon, who resigned as Austrian Ombudsman at the end of June 2022.
