On 24 March 2026, Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé published a special report summarizing his 10 years in office, a period of historic growth in public sector oversight. The departing Ombudsman, whose term ends March 31, highlights improvements in public services, but also calls attention to persistent issues, like the urgent ongoing “crisis” in the province’s overcrowded jails.

L’Ombudsman sortant, dont le mandat prend fin le 31 mars, met en lumière les améliorations apportées aux services publics, tout en attirant l’attention sur des problèmes persistants, comme la « crise » continue et urgente dans les établissements correctionnels surpeuplés de la province.

Ombudsperson Gaby Schwarz, together with the head of the Federal Commission, Dr. Reinhard Klaushofer, presented the alarming findings of the special report “Persons with Mental Illness: Care in the Penitentiary System Under Scrutiny.”

Mr. Naveed Kamran Baloch took oath of his office on 4 March, 2026 as the 9^th regular Wafaqi Mohtasib (Federal Ombudsman) of Pakistan for a four-year term. The oath was administered by the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mr. Asif Ali Zardari, at a ceremony held at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Islamabad.

Tabled in Parliament on 18 March 2026, a new investigation report by the Victorian Ombudsman "Outsourcing small claims handling: How councils manage fairness and responsibility" looked into local councils' use of small claims handlers to manage claims for injury or property damage that fall below the excess in their insurance policy.

The Commonwealth National Preventive Mechanism has released a report as part of its monitoring role under the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture. The report identified several systemic issues and concerns related to the service provider transition, which impacted overall safety and security and the day to day lives and experiences of people in detention.

The Control Yuan convened its 2025 Annual Review Meeting on 2 February 2026, chaired by Acting President Lee Hung-chun. As the final annual review of the Sixth Term of CY Members, Acting President Lee expressed his sincere gratitude to all Members and staff for their years of dedication, urging them to remain steadfast in the exercise of their oversight functions in order to fulfill the institution’s constitutional mandate and meet public expectations.
