On May 18, 2026 the State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel Mr. Matanyahu Englman presented to the Speaker of the Knesset (Israeli parliament) Ombudsman Annual Report 52 for the year 2025. Over 30,000 complaints were received in 2025 - double the number received seven years earlier.

El Defensor del Pueblo, Ángel Gabilondo, ha formulado una recomendación a la Dirección General de la Policía (DGP) para que se evite la expulsión de personas extranjeras que estén en proceso de regularizar su situación en España. La institución ha pedido que durante el período de vigencia del proceso de regularización de personas extranjeras -iniciado el 16 de abril y que finaliza el próximo 30 de junio- no se den órdenes de expulsión de ciudadanos y ciudadanas extranjeras que carezcan de antecedentes penales, cuando la expulsión se fundamente en su situación de estancia irregular.

A NSW Ombudsman investigation has identified failures within Insurance and iCare NSW’s (icare’s) management of workers compensation premiums between 2017 and 2023. Tabled in NSW Parliament on 29 May 2026, the Investigation into icare’s processing of actual wage declarations and hindsight adjustments to workers compensation premiums found that icare engaged in unreasonable conduct by failing to exercise its statutory functions within a reasonable timeframe.

On 18 May 2026, the President of the UN General Assembly, Ms Annalena Baerbock, convened a high-level panel at the UN Headquarters in New York on the importance of Ombudsman institution’s compliance with the Venice Principles in accordance with General Assembly resolution 79/177. The panel discussion featured Ms. Nadine Mailloux, IOI President and Ombudsman of Montreal, Ms. Angie Cruickshank Lambert, Ombudswoman of the Republic of Costa Rica, and Mr. Rafael Bustos Gisbert, Spanish Member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. Le 18 mai 2026, la Présidente de l’Assemblée générale des Nations Unies, Mme Annalena Baerbock, a organisé une table ronde de haut niveau au siège des Nations Unies à New York sur l’importance du respect des Principes de Venise par les institutions d’ombudsman, conformément à la résolution 79/177 de l’Assemblée générale. La table ronde a réuni Mme Nadine Mailloux, présidente de l’IIO et ombudsman de Montréal, Mme Angie Cruickshank Lambert, médiatrice de la République du Costa Rica, et M. Rafael Bustos Gisbert, membre espagnol de la Commission de Venise du Conseil de l’Europe.
