The IOI Board of Directors decided at their Board meeting held in Curaçao in May 2026 to continue the regional subsidy programme for the membership year 2026/2027. Members in good standing wishing to apply for regional subsidies can submit project proposals until 30 September 2026. Furthermore, the IOI General Secretariat will hold a webinar explaining the regional subsidy process and requirements at the end of August 2026. Persons interested are invited to pre-register.

The reformed Common European Asylum System requires all Member States to establish an independent monitoring mechanism. This is intended to ensure that human rights are respected during the new screening and asylum border procedures at the EU’s external borders. In Austria, the legislature has entrusted the Austrian Ombudsman Board with this task.
