Peer review of the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman was held in Coventry
A peer review of the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman (UK) was held in Coventry (UK), in November 2023, by a specially designated panel led by the Ombudsman of Greece and IOI Regional President (Europe) Andreas Pottakis. Former Ombudsman of Ireland and former President of the IOI, Peter Tyndall, Professor of socio-legal studies at the University of Glasgow, Chris Gill, and Kersten England, former Chief Executive of Bradford City Council and of York City Council, were the other three members of the peer review panel.

New monitoring tool shows where Austria falls short in terms of human rights
On 7 November 2023, the Austrian League for Human Rights submitted the midterm report of civil society regarding the UPR of Austria to the UN. In a scientific cooperation with the Austrian Ombudsman Board and partially financed by the Future Funds of the Republic of Austria, the League brought to life an online montitoring tool. In future, this tool shall provide an up-to-date status of the implementation of the human rights recommendations in Austria at all times.

MOU extension signed between the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia and the Ombudsman of the Kingdom of Thailand
On 8 November 2023, Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit, Chief Ombudsman of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Mr. Mokhammad Najih, Chairman of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia, signed the extension of the Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral cooperation between the two sides in Yogyakarta, Republic of Indonesia.

The Control Yuan was honored to host the distinguished President of the Federación Iberoamericana del Ombudsperson (FIO) and Ombudsman of the Dominican Republic, Mr. Pablo Ulloa, along with his delegation, for a special address and visit on 18 October 2023. An independent investigation is initiated by the Greek Ombudsman on the Pylos shipwreck incident. The Ombudsman, Mr. Andreas Pottakis, addressed two letters to the Commandant of the Hellenic Coastguard requesting a thorough internal investigation on any acts or omissions by Coastguard officers in connection to the tragic incident of 14 June 2023.

Chief Ombudsman join the Southeast Asian Ombudsman Forum (SEAOF) Meeting 2023 held in Yogyakarta
On 8th November 2023, in a landmark event at the Royal Ambarrukmo Yogyakarta, the SEAOF+ Meeting brought together member institutions of the Southeast Asian Ombudsman Forum (SEAOF) and representatives from notable organizations. Invited participants included the Ombudsman of Hong Kong, Commonwealth Ombudsman, Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) Malaysia, and the National SDGs Secretariat of Indonesia.

Ombudsman as “clear mirror” of public administration commends public organisations and public officers who provided quality public service
At the 26th Presentation Ceremony of The Ombudsman’s Awards on 15 November 2023, the Ombudsman, Ms Winnie Chiu, presented the Grand Award to the Immigration Department, an Award for Public Organisation to the Efficiency Office and the Hospital Authority separately, and the Award on Mediation to the Chief Secretary for Administration’s Office. Individual Awards were also given to 62 public officers.

Parliamentary Committee on Human and National Minority Rights Votes in Favor of the Ombudswoman’s 2022 Annual Report
At its session held on 18 October 2023, the Committee on Human and National Minority Rights of the Croatian Parliament unanimously voted in favor of the Ombudswoman’s Annual Report 2022. Parliamentary members of the Committee pointed out that the Report is comprehensive and well-argued, as well as that the analyses, data and the conclusions it contains are widely read and used.
