Ombudsman conducted Mobile Accountability Clinics in Zomba district
In an effort to strengthen transparency and accountability mechanisms at grassroots level the Office of the Ombudsman conducted Mobile Accountability Clinics in Zomba District for two weeks. Through the mobile clinics platform, the Office takes its services to the communities to sensitize and empower people to identify and report suspected acts of Maladministration that are perpetrating injustices.

Consultation of the regions on the IOI World Conference Themes
For the 13th IOI World Conference the National Ombudsman of the Netherlands proposed five themes to be discussed during the event. As the institution wanted to learn the views of other regions on the themes, they started online meetings with the IOI regional boards where the latter were invited to share their thoughts and ideas on the themes as viewed from their perspective.

Alberta Ombudsman releases 56th annual report highlighting fairness outcomes from the 2022-23 fiscal year
Investigations into complaints of unfair treatment resulted in recommended solutions across a myriad of issues in 2023. In 2022-23, the office received 4,713 total cases, 3,251 of which were inquiries through our live intake line. The report also provides the readers with information about the Ombudsman’s role, investigations statistics, and case stories demonstrating the office’s focus on administrative fairness and ensuring fair treatment for Albertans.

Hungarian Ombudsman Ákos Kozma visits the Austrian Ombudsman Board
On Monday, 30 October 2023, Ombudsperson Gaby Schwarz welcomed the Hungarian Ombudsman Ákos Kozma at the Austrian Ombudsman Board. During the work meeting, they agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation. Similar to the Austrian Ombudsman Board, the Hungarian institution also functions as a National Human Rights Institution and a National Preventive Mechanism.

Ombudsman urges improvements in how trees are protected in Northern Ireland’s planning system
A report published by the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) into how trees are protected has found that despite 369 tree protection breaches reported between 2019 and 2022, only one resulted in enforcement action being taken, and none led to prosecution. The report also found there was a lack of clear information for the public on Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs), and that information about which trees are protected should be made more accessible.
