2025-04-25Inspector’s report on Southern Queensland Correctional Centre released
Under the Inspector of Detention Services Act 2022 (IDS Act) the Queensland Ombudsman, Mr Anthony Reilly, is also the Inspector of Detention Services (Inspector). Under the IDS Act, the Inspector must inspect each prison in Queensland every five years and release a report about the inspection. The report makes 37 recommendations for areas of improvement for the women’s prison.

Tras una serie de dificultades advertidas en el proceso de vacunación contra el COVID-19 que se viene desarrollando a la población indígena de Loreto, la oficina de la Defensoría del Pueblo en esta región demandó a la Dirección Regional de Salud ejecutar, de manera eficiente y transparente, el presupuesto de S/ 1 276 575 que fue transferido por el Ministerio de Economía y Finanzas para garantizar el desplazamiento de las brigadas de vacunación hacia las comunidades nativas que se encuentran en zonas más alejadas y de difícil acceso geográfico

El Defensor del Pueblo (e.f.), Francisco Fernández Marugán, ha realizado una visita oficial a las ciudades autónomas de Ceuta y Melilla del 1 al 4 de junio para entrevistarse con autoridades y representantes de ONG. Fernández Marugán ha querido conocer de primera mano la situación en ambas ciudades tras la entrada a nado en Ceuta de numerosas personas extranjeras la semana del 17 de mayo. Al Defensor le preocupa especialmente la acogida de los menores extranjeros no acompañados.

Le 24 mars 2026, l’Ombudsman de l’Ontario, Paul Dubé, a publié un rapport spécial résumant ses dix années au poste, une période de croissance historique en matière de surveillance du secteur public. L’Ombudsman sortant, dont le mandat prend fin le 31 mars, met en lumière les améliorations apportées aux services publics, tout en attirant l’attention sur des problèmes persistants, comme la « crise » continue et urgente dans les établissements correctionnels surpeuplés de la province.

On 10 March 2026, Their Royal Highnesses the Grand Duke Guillaume and the Grand Duchess Stéphanie of Luxembourg visited the Ombudsman, Claudine Konsbruck. During the visit, the Ombudsman and her team presented the missions of the institution to the Grand-Ducal Couple, as well as the main challenges encountered in their daily work.

On 1 June 2020 Mr Vusumzi Magwebu took office as the new Ombudsman of the City of Cape Town. He has vast experience in investigations from both private and public sectors. He is a former prosecutor and was also a senior investigator with the office of the Public Protector, South Africa.

2026-03-13Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes follow-up report on support for unpaid carers
On 4 March 2026, the Office of the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales published ‘Are we caring for our carers? Revisited’, a follow-up to their 2024 Own Initiative investigation into how Welsh local authorities identify, assess and support unpaid carers. The original investigation examined whether 4 local authorities were meeting their statutory duties under the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act 2014. While examples of good practice were identified, it was found that only a small proportion of carers received assessments of their needs, and many were unaware of their rights or the support available.
