SOUTH AFRICA | New Ombudsman of the City of Cape Town took office

Vusumzi Magwebu “Vusi” is the City Ombudsman of the City of Cape Town “City” since 1 June 2020. His responsibility is to ensure that complaints received from the public against the City are resolved in a manner that is fair, impartial, objective, transparent, accountable and democratic.

Previously he was a candidate Commissioner at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration “CCMA” in Cape Town and before that he was a Member of the 5th  democratic parliament in South Africa. He has vast experience in investigations from both private and public sectors. He is a former prosecutor and was also a senior investigator with the office of the Public Protector, South Africa.

Among his achievements, he pioneered forensics practice in an Audit Firm. He holds a Bachelor of Law degree; Diploma in Forensic Investigations, Diploma in Labour Law (distinction) and a competency certificate in Report Writing. He is an affiliate member of The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners “ACFE” in good standing.

Vusi is a man of integrity and a leader in his own right who has led several institutions in good governance and anti-corruption. He strongly believes in the values enshrined in the South African Constitution. 

He enjoys local choral music of isicathamiya and mbube and wanted to be a singer when he was young as he wanted to make the world dance to African sounds, however he realized that he can’t hold a note and chose to study law instead so as to keep the world fair and just.to all people.
