IOI | New IOI Secretary General appointed

On 1 July 2019 Werner Amon took office as new Austrian Ombudsman and was appointed Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI).

Werner Amon counts on more than 25 years of experience as a member of the Austrian Parliament and also gained extensive professional experience in the international field. As spokesman of the Austrian People's Party, Werner Amon was responsible for the areas of European and foreign policy as well as human rights and development policy. He has been head of the Austrian Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) since 2013 and has become Vice President of the Assembly in 2018.

Werner Amon follows former IOI Secretary General Günther Kräuter who has managed the IOI for the last six years with full dedication and commitment. He was instrumental in the development of new and successful training formats and helped further raise the awareness of the IOI in the international community. Günther Kräuter also agreed to stay on as IOI consultant until the 12th IOI World Conference in May 2020.
