2019-10-21Danish Parliamentary Ombudsman becomes new Supreme Court Justice
In September this year, the Danish Supreme Court announced that the Parliamentary Ombudsman, Mr. Jørgen Steen Sørensen, had passed the test required to become a Supreme Court Justice. This means that Ombudsman Sørensen will take up his post as a Justice in the Danish Supreme Court on 1 November 2019.

La institución considera que ninguno de los argumentos ofrecidos por los ayuntamientos consultados justifica el retraso en el establecimiento de estas zonas cuyo fin es la lucha contra el cambio climático y la mejora de la calidad del aire de las ciudades, y recuerda que algunos de ellos han recibido ayudas económicas para su implementación. Insta a que los municipios que ya hayan establecido una Zona de Baja Emisión en su territorio se abstengan de adoptar cualquier medida que suponga una regresión.

On 1 April 2019 Ms Winnie Chiu Wai-yin has taken office as the new Ombudsman of Hong Kong. Ms Chiu follows former Hong Kong Ombudsman Connie Lau, who completed her term on 31 March 2019.

On 27 November 2023, the Biennial report of the deaths of children in New South Wales: 2020 and 2021, incorporating reviewable deaths of children, had been tabled in Parliament. The report details how infant and child mortality rates in NSW fell between 2007 and 2021.

The Ombudsman Commission recently hosted a comprehensive training program in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province on 8 March 2024 and at the National Capital District on 14 March 2024. The training was aimed at enhancing the understanding of the Chief Executive Officers of the District Development Authority (DDA) and the Heads of Secretariats regarding their roles and responsibilities as leaders.

On 19 January 2026, the IOI General Secretariat held its first information session for new IOI members, who joined the IOI in the past two years. The aim was to introduce them to the Secretariat team and to inform them about the services the IOI provides to its members.

La defensoría de la ciudad publica el informe monográfico "Los servicios de atención a las violencias sexuales en la ciudad de Barcelona", en el que han participado más de un centenar de personas que trabajan en servicios sociales y sanitarios y en entidades autogestionadas. Así mismo, se han analizado protocolos y otros documentos específicos, así como los 18 servicios especializados que existen en la ciudad.

Since 1 December 2019 British Colombia, Canada, has a new law that gives current and former provincial government employees a way to bring forward concerns about wrongdoing in workplace. The Public Interest Disclosure Act gives the Ombudsperson a new statutory mandate to conduct whistleblowing investigations if employees do not wish to report those concerns internally to their employer.

2019-09-05Dutch Ombudsman hosts Poldershop on “Ombudsman Tools”
Dutch National Ombudsman Reinier Van Zutphen will host another Poldershop in The Hague on Friday, 1 November 2019. This edition of the Poldershop is about how Ombudsman assess the actions of the government and on what basis they reach their decisions. Input and results from this Poldershop will inform an IOI Best Practice Paper to be published next year.

The Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman (LGSCO) has presented its Annual Report and Accounts to parliament for the period April 2024 to March 2025. For the second consecutive year, the Ombudsman saw a 15% increase in the number of new complaints registered.

El 18 de diciembre de 2025, el pleno del Parlamento Vasco designó a Mikel Mancisidor para ocupar el cargo de ararteko (Ombudsman de Euskadi). Sucede en el cargo a Manuel Lezertua, que presentó su renuncia en junio de 2025. El nuevo ararteko tomará posesión del cargo de ararteko el próximo 5 de febrero de 2026.
