SERBIA | International Academic Workshop “The Ombudsman’s Response to Global Crises” will take place on 22 – 23 June 2026 at the Institute for Philosophy and Social Theory, University of Belgrade

The workshop conveners – Luka Glušac (University of Belgrade), Naomi Creutzfeldt (University of Kent), and Chris Gill (University of Glasgow) – invite papers that examine the role of the ombudsman in the context of the following global crises and challenges:

  • the climate crisis
  • growing insecurity and armed conflict
  • increased migratory flows and human mobility
  • attempts to undermine universities
  • rule of law and democratic backsliding
  • global health challenges (including Covid)
  • the social, environmental, and economic impacts of artificial intelligence

The workshop is expected to result in an edited volume with a university press. The deadline for applications is 15 March 2026. The full call for papers is available here, and the application form is here. We are interested in receiving papers both from academics and practitioners working in the ombudsman community.
