A special report by the NSW Ombudsman has recommended that Government agencies be formally reminded that they are not to block individuals from making a report or complaint to NSW integrity bodies.

SPSO publishes thematic report on learning from complaints
The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO) published its second thematic report on “Making Complaints Work For Everyone”. The report focuses on the impact of complaints on staff who have been complained. It identifies the causes of negative staff experiences of complaints, and offers a number of resources that can help prevent these difficulties whilst ensuring that the rights of the service user are properly observed.

Sindh Ombudsman establishes Climate & Disaster Justice Unit
The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, inaugurated the one-of-its-kind Climate & Disaster Justice Unit, a pioneering initiative to ensure expeditious and justifiable redressal of complaints stemming from climate-related and man-made disasters. The Unit will be a fast-paced mechanism resolving issues of delay, corruption, or neglect in relief, rehabilitation and public service delivery. It will be working on safeguarding vulnerable groups, inclusive governance, and coordination with UN agencies, NGOs, and civil society.

Board of Directors holds annual meeting in Rabat
The IOI Board of Directors held its annual meeting from 11 – 15 May 2025 in Rabat (Morocco). The IOI expresses its gratitude to the host of this meeting, the office of the Mediator of the Kingdom of Morocco, for providing the perfect setting for three days of fruitful discussions and collegial and productive meetings.

The IOI introduced a publication series of Best Practice Papers (BPPs) with a view to providing guidance material for strong and independent Ombudsman institutions. Revised versions of two papers of this publication series, namely the BPP on ‘Developing and Reforming Ombudsman Institutions’ and the BPP on ‘Dealing with challenging behaviour’ are now available on the IOI Website.

Ombudsman in Cabinda to close Ombudsman Week 2025
The Ombudsman began a two-day visit to the province of Cabinda on 28 April 2025, where she held a courtesy meeting with the Provincial Governor, Suzana Fernanda Pemba Abreu. Florbela Rocha Araújo's trip comes on the closing day of Ombudsman's Week, celebrated annually throughout the country from 19 to 28 April.

National Ombudsman releases Annual report 2024: Put Citizens First
A government that truly serves its citizens makes plans that are realistic and feasible. Cabinet plans should never lead to unrealistic or unlawful plans for which others would get the blame if and when things go wrong. Ombudsman probes enhanced management of countryside ancillary tourist facilities to pursue “tourism is everywhere”
The Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, on 29 May 2025 announced the launch of a direct investigation operation to examine the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s management of countryside ancillary tourist facilities to align with its efforts to develop green tourism and the pursuit of the ideas of “tourism is everywhere” and “sightseeing all over Hong Kong”.

Ombudsman Sindh launches collaborative outreach initiative with UN agencies and civil society
Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, chaired a high-level meeting attended by representatives of prominent UN agencies, foreign and local NGOs, community based organizations, local support organizations, and civil society organizations to formally launch the “Awareness and Outreach Program - A Collaborative Initiative.” This initiative is aimed at strengthening public awareness of citizens’ rights, promoting transparency and accountability, and enhancing the visibility and accessibility of grievance redress mechanisms across Sindh.

CY Issues Correction to Hsinchu County Government for Dereliction of Duty in Blocking Legal Residents’ Passage
A legally constructed building located on a road section in Guanxi township, Hsinchu County has been placed with various barriers and obstacles in front of its entrance by perpetrators since 2020. Despite repeated petitions from the residents, the Hsinchu County Government failed to provide an appropriate response. The Control Yuan members Lin Yu-Jung and Shih Chin-Fang conducted an investigation and concluded that the Hsinchu County Government was derelict in its duties.
