ANGOLA | African Ombudsman received at Presidential Palace

On 24 April 2025, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, met at the Presidential Palace in Luanda with a delegation from the Association of African Ombudsman and Mediators, AOMA.

On leaving the Palácio da Cidade Alta, the acting President of AOMA, Antónia Florbela Araújo, who is the Ombudsman of the Republic of Angola, said that it was a courtesy meeting.

The group's spokeswoman also told journalists that the meeting also served to inform the Angolan statesman, in his capacity as President-in-Office of the African Union, how AOMA, an institution created in 1978, works.

She also said that the delegation, made up of magistrates from eight countries on the continent, took advantage of the meeting to congratulate President João Lourenço on his election to chair the African Union.

AOMA is meeting in Luanda to, among other things, revise its statutes and improve the way the institution works.
