The Ombudsman, Mr. Andreas Pottakis, addressed two letters to the Commandant of the Hellenic Coastguard requesting a thorough internal investigation on any acts or omissions by Coastguard officers in connection to the tragic incident of 14 June 2023.

New monitoring tool shows where Austria falls short in terms of human rights
On 7 November 2023, the Austrian League for Human Rights submitted the midterm report of civil society regarding the UPR of Austria to the UN. In a scientific cooperation with the Austrian Ombudsman Board and partially financed by the Future Funds of the Republic of Austria, the League brought to life an online montitoring tool. In future, this tool shall provide an up-to-date status of the implementation of the human rights recommendations in Austria at all times.

Le Médiateur de la République pris part au séminaire sur la gestion des crises
Un séminaire sur la gestion des crises: quel rôle pour le Médiateur ou Ombudsman s’est tenu au Grand Duché de Luxembourg, le 24 octobre 2023. Le séminaire organisé par l’AOMF a réuni les Médiateurs et Ombudsmans de la Francophonie. Cette rencontre a permis des échanges enrichissants sur le rôle essentiel joué par ces institutions dans la gestion des crises sanitaires, climatiques et sociales, ainsi que dans la protection des droits fondamentaux.
