Control Yuan Members Inspect Kinmen County, Address Remote Island Issues on Healthcare, Inter-Island Transportation, and Youth Entrepreneurship
Control Yuan (CY) members Lai Chen-Chang and Lin Yu-Jung conducted a circuit supervision and inspection in Kinmen County from January 8 to 10, 2025. In addition to receiving people’s complaints at the County Government’s office, they were briefed by county officials on local administration.

Ombudsman Ontario kicks off 50th anniversary year with Good Governance Awards
On 28 February 2025, the Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé announced a new award for public sector bodies that have demonstrated exemplary administrative practices – the Ombudsman’s Award for Good Governance – as part of his office’s 50th anniversary activities. Awards will be given to selected organizations in three areas of the Ombudsman’s mandate – provincial government bodies, broader public sector bodies (e.g., school boards, universities, children’s aid societies), and municipalities, he announced.

Provincial Ombudsman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa achieves highest target in number of complaints
In the year 2024, the Provincial Ombudsman Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded a significant surge in complaints, totaling over 5,348 cases with 4,043 complaints disposal - a notable increase from the previous year. This substantial rise in complaints filed with the Ombudsman Office indicates a growing awareness among the general public about their rights and the available avenues for redress.

Sindh Ombudsman Institution takes stock of its brand ambassador program launched to provide accessibility to the general public
The Brand Ambassador program at universities has been initiated through the Regional Subsidy program of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) in 2022-23 in order to foster a deeper understanding of the mandate and scope of the Sindh Ombudsman Institute and to inform the student-community and general public about its availability for the dispensation of administrative justice and speedy redressal of their complaints, particularly in remote and far flung areas.

New Secretary General Bernhard Achitz takes office
On 10 March 2025, Mr. Bernhard Achitz took office as the new Secretary General of the International Ombudsman Institute. He succeeds Gaby Schwarz in this important role and is looking forward to continuing the important work and services, which the IOI provides to its members around the world. He thanks Ms. Schwarz for her strong commitment and service to the IOI.

Christian Britten Lundblad elected new Ombudsman
On 13 March 2025, the Danish Parliament elected Christian Britten Lundblad as new Ombudsman. He is succeeding Niels Fenger, who in October 2024 took up a position as judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union. Christian Britten Lundblad will take over as Ombudsman on 1 May 2025 after a period with High Court Judge Henrik Bloch Andersen as temporary Ombudsman.

Office of the Ombudsman urges women politicians to report injustices
The Office of the Ombudsman has asked women running in the September 2025 General Elections to report any forms of injustices faced in the election process. The Director of Investigations and Research, Ms Martha Kwengwere, said this during a two-day capacity building training aimed at empowering female aspirants for the positions of Member of Parliament and Ward Councilors from the Central Region at Sunbird Capital Hotel, Lilongwe.

SPSO Launches New Interactive Complaints Map
The Scottish Public Services Ombudsman has launched the first phase of an interactive map. This shows the number of complaints closed in 2022-23 for each Local Authority area in Scotland across the sectors it oversees, mapped against measures of deprivation.

The President of the Czech Republic confirmed the creation of the Children's Ombudsman with his signature
The Czech President sealed the amendment of the Ombudsman Act with his signature. The law will enter into force on 1 July 2025. Thus, the institution of the Children's Ombudsman will be created on that date. Until the election of its representative, the duties will be carried out by the Deputy Ombudsman, Vít Alexander Schorm. The amendment also extends the ombudsman's mandate to include a so-called "National Human Rights Institution" whose aim is to protect and promote human rights in the Czech Republic.

The report ‘Lost in translation’ provides an overview assessment of the provision of Interpretation Services in GP Practices – for patients who are not proficient in English.

Celebrating the Success of the International Ombud Expo 2024
The 2nd International Ombud Expo (IOE) 2024 concluded on a high note, reaffirming the crucial role of Ombud institutions in strengthening governance, upholding human rights, and ensuring good public administration. Hosted in Gaborone, Botswana, from July 29 to August 2, 2024, the event brought together 541 delegates, including Ombud offices, human rights bodies, grievance handlers, and integrity organisations from over 100 countries. The participation of the AOMA Secretariat AORC and of some institutions, which could not afford exhibition stalls and have their accommodation subsidised, received financial support of the IOI including through its regional subsidy programme.

ACRC Announces “2025 Basic Plan for Comprehensive Integrity Assessment of Public Institutions”
The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC, Chairperson Ryu Chul Whan) finalized the 2025 Basic Plan for the Comprehensive Integrity Assessment of Public Institutions on the 24th of February 2025. A comprehensive integrity evaluation will be conducted for all local councils this year to focus efforts on improving entrenched corruption-prone areas in local settings. The final plan for the comprehensive integrity assessment will be confirmed after gathering opinions from various institutions with the results to be announced in December 2025.
