"Increase in CPI Leads to Rise in GDP Per Capita" - Integrity Education for Future Generations to be Strengthened
Last year, Korea achieved its highest-ever ranking (30th) on the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI). The Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) aims to maintain the upward trend through strengthened integrity education for future generations. ACRC to expand the inclusion of integrity content in elementary, middle, and high school textbooks, work with military academies, the Korea National Police University, and teachers’ colleges to make integrity lectures mandatory, and sign MOUs with major universities.

On 16 April 2025, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the Government’s regulation of occupational safety and health in the construction industry, with 40 major recommendations for improvement made to the Labour Department, the Buildings Department and the Development Bureau.

Inspector’s report on Southern Queensland Correctional Centre released
Under the Inspector of Detention Services Act 2022 (IDS Act) the Queensland Ombudsman, Mr Anthony Reilly, is also the Inspector of Detention Services (Inspector). Under the IDS Act, the Inspector must inspect each prison in Queensland every five years and release a report about the inspection. The report makes 37 recommendations for areas of improvement for the women’s prison.

CY Urges VAC to Rectify Waste and Pesticide Violations at Its Affiliated Farms and to Uphold Environmental Responsibilities
The Fushoushan Veterans Farm, affiliated to the Veteran Affairs Council, was found to have committed violations in the handling of business waste. In addition, both Fushoushan and Wuling Veterans Farms were found to have engaged in improper pesticide use. On March 20, 2025, the Control Yuan Committee on Foreign and National Defense Affairs approved the investigation report submitted by CY members Fan Sun-Lu, Lin Wen-Cheng, and Upay Radio Kanasaw.

David Baele appointed as new President of Ombudsman.be
The Board of Directors of Ombudsman.be has appointed Federal Ombudsman David Baele as the new President of the Belgian Network of Ombudsmen. He succeeds Marc Bertrand. The network will continue to strengthen cooperation and make ombudsman services even more accessible to citizens and businesses, helping them more easily to find the right ombudsman when facing issues with public services or companies.

Outgoing Ombudsman Calls for Legislative Reform
Rosemary Agnew, one of Scotland’s leading public figures, has called for legislative reforms as she prepares to step down after eight years as the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO). Throughout her time leading the organisation, she has repeatedly highlighted the need to modernise SPSO legislation to enable the Ombudsman to better serve the public and improve accountability in public services. Significantly, she has called for changes in how complaints are made to the SPSO and the ability to investigate complaints under her own initiative.

Swedish Parliamentary Ombudsmen submit Annual report to Parliament
Every year, the Ombudsman submits a report to the Riksdag. It is a report on the authority's activities in the previous year, together with a selection of the ombudsmen's decisions. In accordance with the instructions of the Riksdag's ombudsmen, the Ombudsman must submit a report to the Riksdag by 15 March each year for the period 1 January - 31 December of the previous year. The summary of the report is now available in English.

At Itamaraty, DPU Coordinates Action for COP30
Representatives of the Federal Public Defenders' Office (DPU) met on Friday, 4 April 2025, with Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) to discuss the institution’s participation in the conference scheduled for November. The objective is to ensure that the demands of Indigenous Peoples, Quilombola communities and Riverside Populations are prioritized in global climate negotiations, ensuring that their voices are effectively represented in international decision-making processes.
