    Discussing EU’s role towards the Sustainable Development Goals

    Victorian Ombudsman tables report on poor communication and delay exacerbated distress of taxi licence holders

    Taxi and hire car licence holders were given the “bureaucratic run-around” when seeking payments from the Fairness Fund set up by the state government to provide them prompt financial assistance, the Victorian Ombudsman has found. Tabling her Investigation into the administration of the Fairness Fund for taxi and hire car licence holders in the Victorian Parliament today, Ombudsman Deborah Glass said the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources had executed its management of the Fund poorly.

    Memorandum of Understanding between General Inspection Organization and Anti-Corruption Directorate of Azerbaijan

    The General Inspection Organization (the GIO) of Islamic Republic of Iran hosted Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Director of the Anti-corruption Directorate with the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan during June 17 - 21, 2018.     Ombudsman receives over 3,000 complaints about public services

    Ombudsman Peter Tyndall received 3,021 complaints about providers of public services last year. The Ombudsman’s annual report for 2017 was published on Wednesday 20 June and shows that the sectors that were the most complained about in 2017 were: Government Departments/Offices (953 complaints), Local Authorities (852 complaints) and Health and social care sector (608 complaints).

    Recently, there have been situations when advocates defending people of negative reputation or negative public perception are insulted and threatened on social media. The Human Rights Defender asks social media account holders to take into consideration that the performance by advocates of their professional duties is indispensable to the process of administration of justice. It is impossible to have justice without proper performance by advocates of their professional activities, which is based on the rule of law.

    Victoria Pearman, Ombudsman for Bermuda, has submitted her Annual Report for 2017 to the Speaker of the House of Assembly in accordance with her statutory duty under the Ombudsman Act 2004.
