Iowa's Ombuds Office received over 4700 contacts for assistance in 2010, according to a report released 1 June 2011. Over 80 percent were complaints or information requests about state and local government agencies.

Today, Newfoundland and Labrador's Citizens' Representative, Barry Fleming QC, released OCR Insights. This is a quarterly newsletter containing news, updates, case summaries and other short bursts of information, distributed to the public, the Newfoundland and Labrador public service, legislators, community-based groups and friends in the Ombuds community.

The Swiss Center of Expertise in Human Rights was inaugurated on 6 May 2011 and will be directed by Prof. Walter Kälin of the Institute for Public Law at the University of Bern.

In a topical press release the Ombudsman of Peru urges his fellow citizens to take part in the general elections to be celebrated on Sunday and accept the results as the outcome of a legitimate democratic process.

The Office of the ombudsman committed itself to engage senior secondary school students. This was to acquaint them with the Ombudsman as well as to answer questions on the role of the Ombudsman in national development. Ombudswoman Eusalyn Lewis, thus, visited various schools.

In 2010 complaints increased by 56% to 34.674 files as the economic crisis continues to feature prominently in the letters from citizens. On 6 April, 'el Defensor del Pueblo' submitted their official annual report to the Presidents of the Spanish Congress and Senate.

Following the successful first I.O.I. edition of the "Sharpening Your Teeth"-Training that was attended by 38 participants from 17 different states, the I.O.I. has organised a second SYT training which will be held from 5 to 8 June 2011 at the I.O.I. General Secretariat in Vienna, Austria.
