NSW Ombudsman tabled a biennial report to Parliament concerning his review of the deaths of 77 children in 2010 and 2011. Under the Community Services Act 1993, the Ombudsman is required to review the deaths of children that occur as a result of abuse or neglect.

On 30 November 2012 the Ombudsman of the Republic of Latvia sent a letter to international stakeholders in the field of human rights drawing attention the risk of poverty in Latvia. On 8 March 2013, the Prime Minister of Latvia issued a statement commenting on this topic.

The Ombudsman presented his Report on State Social Care Centers for Adults with Mental Impairments. In total 30 inspection visits to long-term social care and rehabilitation institutions were conducted by the Ombusdman.

Regarding the Government’s initial response to the Mid Staffordshire NHS Public Inquiry Report, Ombudsman Mellor stated that significant change is required and that the government’s response was an important first step.

The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman is changing the way it works from the beginning of April and will be investigating more complaints and sharing more information with government organisations. This will help to improve public services.

An inaugural meeting of the “Visegrad Group (V4) and Western Balkans Expert Network” on the rule of law and fundamental rights was held in Warsaw on the 12-13th March 2013.

The Ombudsman of the Basque Country (“Ararteko”) and the European Region of the IOI jointly organize a seminar on “The Right to Gender Identity and Affective-Sexual Diversity. Challenges for Equality” to be held in Bilbao on 20 and 21 May 2013.
