The term of former IOI President and New Zealand Chief Ombudsman, Dame Beverley Wakem, is due to expire in March 2015. Given the fact that the Ombudsman’s Office is conducting an important review of the Official Information Act and currently also reviews its operating model, the Officers of Parliament Committee recommends an extension to the term of Chief Ombudsman Wakem until the end of 2015.

The Office of the Ombudsman of the City of Toronto released its 2014 annual report. In a personal statement, Ombudsman Fiona Crean declared she has decided not to seek reappointment.

A young farmer has now received the £45k he was denied by the Rural Payments Agency, following a Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman investigation. 

Mr. Asad Ashraf  Malik, Provincial Ombudsman Sindh (Pakistan), received a complaint stating that the management of a sugar mill had been releasing contaminated water and toxic waste into the drain, which was hazardous to human health, livestock and marine life.

The European network of national human rights institutions (ENNHRI) unanimously adopted the statement on promotion and protection of human rights in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.

Following the successful organization of the inaugural regional colloquium for Ombudsman Institutions, held in Nairobi in September 2013, the Commission on Administrative Justice (Ombudsman) of Kenya published an outcome report on “Repositioning the Ombudsman - Challenges and Prospects for the African Ombudsman Institution”.
