Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall reminded the public that his office can examine complaints about the HSE and all HSE-run centres, including nursing homes. This follows the shocking scenes in the RTE report on Áras Attracta in County Mayo.

Registration is filling up fast for the next session of Ontario Ombudsman André Marin's training course "Sharpening Your Teeth: Advanced Investigative Training for Administrative Watchdogs." The course, which is tailored for oversight agencies and investigators, will be held from 19 January to 21 January 2015 in Toronto, Ontario.

New data published today has revealed that since April this year the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has upheld hundreds more complaints than in previous years.

A complainant approached the Provincial Ombudsman of Sindh, Mr. Asad Ashraf Malik, stating that his father was admitted in the Urology Department of the Civil Hospital, Dadu for dialysis. Due to frequent power break down, the Hospital management was required to operate a power generator for alternate electricity supply to the Hospital and particularly for dialysis patients.

The Northern Ireland Ombudsman and the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission entered into a Service Level Agreement in October 2012 for the purposes of a joint project to develop human rights based approach to ombudsmen investigations.

2014 marked 30 years of the Office of the Ombudsman in Ireland. As part of this anniversary, the Ombudsman's Office co-hosted a conference with the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) on the topic of “Held to Account: Responsibility and Accountability in the Public Service”. Former IOI President, Dame Beverley Wakem, and newly elected second IOI Vicepresident and Ombudsman of Ireland, Peter Tyndall, were among the speakers.

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin called on the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services to crack the pervasive “code of silence” under which some guards in the province’s correctional institutions use excessive force against inmates and conspire to cover it up.
