The Parliamentary Ombudsman, Judge Joseph Zammit McKeon, presented the first Parliamentary Ombudsman Prize in Law to Ms Jodie Mary Farrugia in recognition of her dissertation titled ‘Guardian of Good Governance: Expanding the Jurisdiction of the Parliamentary Ombudsman in Malta’, submitted in April 2025.

Cada 15 de junio se celebra el Día Mundial de Toma de Conciencia del Abuso y el Maltrato en la Vejez, que tiene entre sus objetivos incrementar la conciencia pública internacional sobre la violencia y el abuso contra las personas mayores. La síndica ha querido mostrar su compromiso con la gente mayor en la ponencia inaugural de la VI Jornada que organiza el Movimiento para Detener el Maltrato a las Personas Mayores, que tiene la voluntad de hacer visible este fenómeno y trabajar para erradicarlo y fomentar el buen trato.

L’ombudsman de Montréal, Me Nadine Mailloux, a déposé le 17 juin 2024 au conseil municipal son rapport d’activités pour l’année 2023. Ce 20e rapport annuel du Bureau fait état de 2 223 dossiers traités, incluant 215 nouvelles enquêtes sur des sujets très variés, dont 47 lancées à l’initiative de l’OdM. The Human Rights Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia has created a special page on its website, exclusively dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic. On 5 March 2020, Ms Marjeta Cotman and Dr Jože Ruparčič were elected by the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia to the position of Deputy Ombudsmen of the Republic of Slovenia.

Más de la mitad de los municipios en zona de emergencia nuclear no disponen del Plan de actuación
Más de la mitad de los municipios catalanes expuestos al riesgo de una emergencia nuclear (el 55,8 %) no tienen aprobado el Plan de actuación municipal de emergencia nuclear (PAMEN). Esto afecta a 58 municipios de un total de 104, todos ellos situados a una distancia de entre 10 y 30 kilómetros de las centrales nucleares de Ascó o Vandellòs (en la zona 2 según la delimitación del Plan de emergencia nuclear exterior –PENTA– aprobado por el Gobierno español). Estos datos se recogen en el informe Evaluación de los planes de actuación municipal de emergencia nuclear, que la síndica ha entregado esta mañana al Parlamento catalán y ha remitido a los municipios analizados y al Gobierno de Cataluña.

North Tyneside Council has agreed to pay £5,900 to a family after the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman found it failed to provide promised specialist technology that would have allowed a child with special educational needs to learn from home - the second time the Ombudsman has ruled against the council for the same child.

The Ombudsman Office Hosted a Roundtable Conference for Public Sector Ombudspersons
In December 2025, the Office of the Ombudsman of Israel hosted a roundtable conference, under the auspices of Matanyahu Englman, State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel, focused on the methodologies used in handling public complaints. Attendees included ombudspersons and public complaint managers from government ministries, statutory authorities, and state-owned companies.

Domestic and Ethnic Committee Inspects OCA, Showing Concern for Marine Debris Reuse and Marine Ecological Conservation Achievements
On 7 November 2025, the convener of the Control Yuan’s Domestic and Ethnic Committee, Ombudsman Tsai Chung-yi, accompanied by 14 committee members, visited the Ocean Conservation Administration under the Ocean Affairs Council for an inspection. The delegation conducted field visits to member companies of the Marine Debris Recycling Coalition and the Central Taiwan Marine Conservation Education Center, followed by operational briefings and a comprehensive discussion session with the OAC and OCA.

Over 7,000 complaints received by Parliamentary Ombudsman
In 2025, the Parliamentary Ombudsman received a total of 7,321 complaints. This is the second largest number of complaints of all time. Case numbers rose in nearly all administrative branches. The largest numbers of complaints concerned social services, the administrative branch of the police and healthcare. The number of cases concerning foreign nationals more than tripled from the previous year. More than half of them concerned delays in processing at the Finnish Immigration Service.

L’Association des Ombudsmans et Médiateurs de la Francophonie (AOMF) s’est réunie le 19 janvier 2026 à Paris. Cette rencontre a permis de dresser le bilan des actions menées en 2025 et de définir les grandes orientations pour la période 2026-2027.
