APT | Indigenous Peoples and Deprivation of Liberty: A Global Dialogue Among National Preventive Mechanisms and NHRIs

You are cordially invited you to participate in a global online dialogue on Indigenous Peoples Deprived of Liberty, to be held on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, from 11:00 to 12:30 CEST.

The event is co-hosted by the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT) and the Canadian Human Rights Commission (CHRC), and is convened specifically for National Preventive Mechanisms (NPMs) and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs).

Across many regions, Indigenous peoples are disproportionately affected by deprivation of liberty – at the intersection of criminal justice, mental health, child protection, and immigration systems. This dialogue will bring together NPMs and NHRIs to share experiences, identify shared challenges, and explore promising practices for culturally grounded and rights-based monitoring.

The event will feature a moderated panel of speakers from Canada, New Zealand, Norway, Australia, Brazil and Argentina, followed by an open plenary discussion.

Simultaneous interpretation will be available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

If you like to participate, you are kindly asked to confirm your attendance using the following link:  REGISTRATION
