Toronto’s First Deputy Ombudsman to tackle systemic barriers to housing
On 20 July 2023, Ombudsman Kwame Addo announced that Reema Patel will be Toronto's first Deputy Ombudsman. Leading a new housing unit at Ombudsman Toronto, Patel will oversee the fairness of the City of Toronto's housing policies and programs. Patel will officially join the Ombudsman Toronto office on July 31, 2023, at which time she will begin the important work of building the housing unit.

NSW Ombudsman releases report on response to children presenting alone to homelessness services
The report assesses what NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) has done to improve the response to children who present alone to homelessness services since the Ombudsman’s Office first reported on this issue in 2018. The second report was in 2020; this is the third.

Record cases handled by Toronto Ombudsman in 2024 indicate increasing demand for accountability in local government
The City of Toronto’s Ombudsman handled 4,929 cases in 2024, a 43 per cent increase over the previous year and the highest on record. The most common fairness issues stemmed from poor communication, including no or delayed responses and inconsistent or incorrect information from City staff.

Ontario Ombudsman deplores unacceptable conditions in Neskantaga First Nation, calls for urgent action
On 19 September 2025, Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé called on federal and provincial governments to take immediate action to address the unacceptable and unsafe conditions in Neskantaga First Nation, a remote Ojibwe community located nearly 500 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, which is living under the longest boil-water advisory in Canadian history.

NSW Ombudsman Annual Report and summary of investigations report tabled in Parliament
The NSW Ombudsman’s Office Annual Report: 2021-22 has been tabled in Parliament. The report provides insight to the 24,874 contacts received by the office in the financial year to 30 June 2022. These included 12,363 actionable complaints, which highlight the diversity of issues raised by NSW citizens accessing services from NSW Government agencies, local councils and certain community-service providers.

Ombudsman Punjab Strengthens Pakistan’s Role at the 26th Asian Ombudsman Association Meeting in Nanjing, China
The Honourable Ombudsman Punjab, Ayesha Hamid, represented Pakistan at the 26th Meeting of the Board of Directors (BOD) and the 18th General Assembly (GA) of the Asian Ombudsman Association (AOA), hosted by the National Commission of Supervision of China in Nanjing from 9 to 10 September 2025. The event convened ombudsman leaders, oversight institutions, and experts from across Asia, providing a dynamic platform to deliberate on common challenges, institutional cooperation, and strategies for citizen-centered governance.

Reminder: The Ombudsperson for Children holds two-day workshop on the situation of children in conflict with the law and deprived of their liberty
The Office of the Ombudsperson for Children invites Ombudsman and Mediator Institutions affiliated with the International Ombudsman Institute to participate in a 2-day Workshop on the theme “The role of Ombudsman and Mediators in monitoring the situation of children in conflict with the law and deprived of their liberty” to be held in the Republic of Mauritius on 5 and 6 September 2023.
