2023-09-28The Yukon Ombudsman issues report into fairness complaint regarding sexualized abuse at Elementary School
The Office of the Yukon Ombudsman has issued the first of two reports into a complaint of unfairness against the Yukon Department of Education from a parent of a student at Hidden Valley Elementary School. The Ombudsman investigation found that the government’s failure to communicate with parents at the school was unfair, depriving parents of the opportunity to take timely action to help their children.

2025-03-06Ombudsman Ontario kicks off 50th anniversary year with Good Governance Awards
On 28 February 2025, the Ontario Ombudsman Paul Dubé announced a new award for public sector bodies that have demonstrated exemplary administrative practices – the Ombudsman’s Award for Good Governance – as part of his office’s 50th anniversary activities. Awards will be given to selected organizations in three areas of the Ombudsman’s mandate – provincial government bodies, broader public sector bodies (e.g., school boards, universities, children’s aid societies), and municipalities, he announced.

2025-07-03Record cases handled by Toronto Ombudsman in 2024 indicate increasing demand for accountability in local government
The City of Toronto’s Ombudsman handled 4,929 cases in 2024, a 43 per cent increase over the previous year and the highest on record. The most common fairness issues stemmed from poor communication, including no or delayed responses and inconsistent or incorrect information from City staff.
