2025-10-29First IOI media training for French-speaking members successfully concluded
From 20 to 22 October 2025, the IOI hosted its first media training for its French-speaking members in collaboration with the renowned British media agency Media First. Participants from Africa, Europe and North-America learned different techniques to successfully perform in a TV or print interview and had the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge by practicing with a journalist trainer as well as a newly developed AI coach.

2026-02-12NSW Ombudsman investigation finds statutory failings in DCJ handling of ROSH reports
A newly released NSW Ombudsman investigation has denounced DCJ’s longstanding practice of closing ROSH reports on the stated basis that it has inadequate resourcing to undertake the necessary investigation and assessment of risk. “No Capacity to Allocate” – The Department of Communities and Justice’s practice of closing ROSH (Risk of Significant Harm) reports found this practice is contrary to DCJ’s statutory responsibilities, but has become ingrained as ‘business as usual’.

These guidelines provide a systematic framework for documenting and reporting the contribution of public service oversight to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

On 4 February 2026, Flemish Ombudsman Myriam Parys explained on the Flemish radio programme WinWin how water bills are calculated, why tariffs differ, and what citizens can do themselves — from checking their meter regularly to performing a simple leak check. She stressed the importance of clear and transparent communication from water companies.

The IOI was pleased to continue the successful training series for Ombudsman with a mandate as National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) with a workshop in Oslo, which was generously hosted by the Office of the Norwegian Parliamentary Ombud and successfully delivered by the IOI’s long-standing and experienced partner, the Association for the Prevention of Torture (APT).

The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman has published the second in a series of Overview Reports which review issues that are creating potential barriers to accessing healthcare. The report ‘The Removal of Patients from their General Practice Service’ provides an overview assessment of GP Practice decisions to remove patients from their Practice list alongside the guidance; legislation; and processes currently in place to inform these decisions.
