2025-01-09Awareness Raising Session at Mauritius Prisons Training School
With a view to commemorating the Human Rights Day 2024, the Office of the Ombudsman conducted an awareness session on 5th December 2024 at the Mauritius Prisons Training School. With an engaged audience of 65 participants, the session aimed to sensitize Prison Officers and newly recruited Officers on the role and services provided by the Office and their duties and responsibility under prevailing local legislation and International Covenants.

Representatives of the Federal Public Defenders' Office (DPU) met on Friday, 4 April 2025, with Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, President of COP30, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) to discuss the institution’s participation in the conference scheduled for November. The objective is to ensure that the demands of Indigenous Peoples, Quilombola communities and Riverside Populations are prioritized in global climate negotiations, ensuring that their voices are effectively represented in international decision-making processes.

Control Yuan (CY) members Lai Chen-Chang and Lin Yu-Jung conducted a circuit supervision and inspection in Kinmen County from January 8 to 10, 2025. In addition to receiving people’s complaints at the County Government’s office, they were briefed by county officials on local administration.

2024-11-07University of Malta Survey on Ombudsman Institutions
The Dean, Faculty of Laws, University of Malta, a former Senior Investigating Officer with the Office of the Ombudsman in Malta and author of “The Ombudsman: too soft a take on the public administration?” (BDL 2020) is currently working on another, somewhat more ambitious work, this time considering the ombudsman institution from a global perspective. 2024-06-13Malawi's First Ombudsman dies
The Office of the Ombudsman in Malawi on June 2, 2024 woke up to the sad news of the death of the first Ombudsman in the country the Honorable James Makoza Chirwa. Ombudsman Grace Malera and other members of the senior management attended the funeral on behalf of the office where she hailed all the strides that the office registered during the late Chirwa’s tenure.

The Honorable Ombudsman for the Republic of Malawi, Grace Tikambenji Malera, has called for a structured relationship with Civil Society Organizations in the country over their mutual responsibilities of enforcing the law. Ms Malera said this when her office hosted a delegation of leaders of the National Alliance Against Corruption and the Citizen Alliance.
