The 2020 Annual Report of the Commission Against Corruption of Macao was published in the Official Gazette of the Macao Special Administrative Region on 20 May 2021. In 2020, under the pandemic, the CCAC still carried out the actions in the areas of anti-corruption, ombudsman and promotion and education in a pragmatic and orderly way in accordance with its plan.

The Ombudsman de Montréal, Ms Nadine Mailloux, tabled her annual report for the year 2020 to City Council. Presented under the theme "Here for you", the report shows a record number of complaints with 2,150 files handled, including 498 new investigations, 20 of which were initiated by the OdM, compared with 1,966 files handled in 2019.

2021-05-14PHSO starts to regularly publish casework
On Thursday 29 April 2021, PHSO started the routine publication of their primary and detailed investigations on their website. You can view their cases on their new publishing platform. They published around 15 of their decisions and will continue to publish cases on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. The number of cases they publish will gradually increase over the next few months.

The members of the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB), Mr Bernhard Achitz, Mr Walter Rosenkranz and Mr Werner Amon presented on the basis of the annual report the AOB’s investigation results from 2020 and gave, on the basis of some selected complaints and their own perceptions, an insight into the work of the monitoring and human rights institution. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the AOB published its annual report in three volumes for the first time. In addition to Volume 1 ‘Monitoring of public administration’ and Volume 2 ‘Preventive human rights monitoring’, Volume 3 ‘Covid-19’ covers all those observations related to the 2020 Covid-19 measures.

The Office of the Ombudsman in Ireland has recently introduced a Human Rights-based approach to Ombudsman complaint handling. The Office has also developed a guide: ‘Human Rights: A guide for Ombudsman staff when investigating complaints’. The project was financed by the IOI as part of its Regional subsidy programme.

The BC Ombudsperson has identified a serious lack of progress by the Ministry of Children and Family Development on a 2021 Ombudsperson report with troubling findings about separate confinement of youth in custody centres. “The ministry’s inaction continues to expose vulnerable youth in its care to the risk of significant harm from separate confinement, especially Indigenous youth,” said Ombudsperson Jay Chalke.

2021-04-30AOC Violates ICCPR by not Separating Defendants from Prisoners in Detention; CY Urges Improvement
In order to solve prison overcrowding, the Agency of Corrections (AOC) put accused persons, who are presumed innocent, in the branch prisons of non-prison correction agencies, leading to worse detention conditions than those of actual inmates and violating the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which states that untried persons should be separated from convicted detainees. Therefore, the CY has urged the AOC to review the situation and make improvements.

El próximo viernes 30 de abril a las 14 hs se llevará adelante el lanzamiento virtual de una nueva etapa de la Ley Micaela. Esta ley, nombrada así en conmemoración de Micaela García, una joven entrerriana de 21 años, víctima de femicidio, fue promulgada el 10 de enero de 2019 estableciendo en sus bases la capacitación obligatoria en género y violencia de género para todas las personas que se desempeñan en la función pública, en los poderes Ejecutivo, Legislativo y Judicial de la Nación.
