    The Office of the Ombudsman (Malawi) is hosting the African regional training on "The role of Ombudsman Institutions in promoting and enforcing accountability ethics" as well as the 14th AOMA Executive Committee meeting from 5 - 9 February 2018 . The training will be held in the framework of the IOI's annual regional subsidy program and attended by IOI President Peter Tyndall.

    Ombudsman Toronto released a report on an Investigation into Toronto Community Housing Corporation’s Medical and Safety Risk priority transfer process for tenants. Ombudsman Susan Opler made 21 recommendations to improve fairness and to serve tenants with the most serious health and safety concerns related to their units.

    Public Services Ombudsman for Wales publishes quarterly Casebook and Code of Conduct Casebook

    The latest edition of the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales’ Casebook is now available. This edition contains summaries of reports issued by the Ombudsman between October and December 2017, including two public interest reports. Issue 15 of the Code of Conduct Casebook has also been published and contains summaries of investigations into complaints that members of local authorities have broken their code of conduct.

    The Chancellor of Justice is a one-person, independent constitutional institution appointed to office by the Riigikogu on the proposal of the President of the Republic for a term of seven years. The Chancellor’s task is to make sure that legislation in Estonia is in conformity with the Constitution and that the fundamental rights and liberties of people in Estonia are protected. Besides constitutional review and ombudsman functions, the Chancellor also fulfils the role of national preventive mechanism for ill-treatment and ombudsman for children. Once a year, the Chancellor presents an annual report of his or her activities to the Riigikogu.

    New Control Yuan members welcomed at pre-inauguration meeting

    Control Yuan President Chang Po-ya welcomed all 11 new CY members at a pre-inauguration meeting held January 18, 2018, two days after the nominees were approved by the Legislative Yuan. In a speech at the gathering, she expressed the expectation that all members will work together in exercising their constitutionally-granted independent ombudsman powers in order to ensure good governance.

    Ombudsman rules complaint of marketplace vendors against removal of kiosks founded

    The Ombudsman considered a complaint filed by a group of thirty Marketplace Vendors founded and ruled that the standards of Reason, Active and adequate information provision, and Reasonableness and proportionality have been violated. The vendors had informed the Ombudsman that they were negatively affected by the decision of the Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunication (Minister TEATT) to breakdown and remove all Kiosks in Philipsburg.

    Ombudsman received Ambassador of Kingdom of Netherlands

    Elmira Suleymanova, the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) received Onno Kervers, Ambasador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Azerbaijan. The Commissioner gave information about the establishment of the Ombudsman Office in Azerbaijan and informed the Ambassador about the Twinning Project to “Strengthening the capacities of the Commissioner for Human Rights”, which lasted for the past 24 months.

    Dialogue seminar on the role of universities in promoting integrity and fight against corruption

    On 19 February 2018 a dialogue seminar was held in the Jordanian Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission on "The Role of Universities in Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption". During the seminar, the Chairman of the Integrity and Anti-Corruption Commission, Mohamed Al-Allaf, stressed the importance of the partnership with Jordanian universities and educational bodies in communicating the mission of the Commission in promoting national integrity and combating corruption.

    Commencement of the Ombudsman Act 2017

    The new Ombudsman Act 2017 commenced on 31 January 2018. The coming into effect of this new Act means that any person who is unhappy about how any government office deals with them, can complain to the Ombudsman. Furthermore, the Ombudsman is empowered by this new Act to not only investigate appropriate complaints that it received but can also initiate investigations on its own from information received from any other source including the media.
