AOM | Joint mission visits to promote rights of migrants

The four international networks of Ombudsmen (AOM, AOMF, FIO and IOI) committed to the protection and promotion of the rights of migrants by adopting the Tirana Declaration in September 2016. Since then, the Association of Mediterranean Ombudsmen (AOM) defined its Strategy for 2017 based on these commitments.

Two missions were organized this year: one in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) in March and another one in Italy in April. The aim of the mission in FYROM was to identify the developments and the conditions in the Asylum Seekers and Refugee Centres in Tabanovce and Vizbegovo.

The AOM mission to Italy put a focus on the Center of Identification in Rom and the hotspot of Trapani-Milo (Sicilia), in order to identify the compliance of the living conditions of migrants to the international standards, according the Fourth commitment of the Tirana Declaration.

Please find attached the mission reports for the visit in FYROM (English version) and the visit to Italy (French version, English coming soon).
