Federal Ombudsman presents annual report 2021
On 2 May 2022, the Federal Ombudsman published its 2021 Annual Report and presented it to the Chamber of Representatives. The Office opened 8,202 files in 2021, which is a 20 % increase compared to 2019. In 2021, 1 complaint in 5 was still coronavirus related. Complaints about unemployment benefits continued to be rife.

XXXII Jornadas de coordinación de Defensores del Pueblo
El ararteko Manuel Lezertua, junto con una delegación de la institución, participará estos días en las XXXII Jornadas de Coordinación de los Defensores del Pueblo que se celebrarán en Santiago de Compostela. Durante los días 3 y 4, representantes de las defensorías y otros expertos analizarán, entre otras cuestiones, la importancia de la transparencia como elemento para el ejercicio de derechos así como el papel protagonista de los defensores en esta materia.

Public Services Ombudsman for Wales Report: North Wales patient death following substandard care
The care of a North Wales patient has been branded ‘substandard’ by the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales following his untimely death at Ysbyty Gwynedd. Commenting on the report, Ombudsman Nick Bennett finds it extremely concerning that the Health Board refuses to admit that had they approached the patient’s care differently, this death could have been prevented.

Falencias en la atención médica
El pasado 13 de septiembre del corriente año, el Procurador Penitenciario resolvió recomendar al Director de la Unidad 6 que implemente las medidas necesarias para garantizar la debida atención médica en favor de los internos alojados allí. Para ello y, en caso de corresponder, se solicitó que se adecúe la planta de personal con que cuenta el Servicio de Asistencia Médica al número de internos alojados o, de no ser posible, se adecúe la cantidad de internos a la cantidad de personal médico en funciones.

Se inauguraron las obras de renovación de la sede Rosario de la Defensoría del Pueblo
El acto fue encabezado por el gobernador Miguel Lifschitz y el Defensor del Pueblo, Raúl Lamberto. "Las nuevas oficinas nos permiten dar un paso importante para defender a los ciudadanos y a la vez reconocer el derecho que tienen a ser bien atendidos”, aseguró el Defensor. En el Día Internacional del Refugiado, que se conmemora cada 20 de junio, la Defensoría del Pueblo reitera al Estado peruano reforzar el sistema de refugio, a fin de garantizar los derechos de las personas solicitantes de protección en el Perú y aquellas que ya se encuentran refugiadas en el país. Ello, ya que, actualmente, se presentan barreras para su acceso e integración, pese a que se encuentran en situación de desplazamiento forzado.

Ombudsman says Victoria must continue to address workplace culture and human rights
Despite prisons being inherently challenging environments, it is disturbing that allegations of excessive force against prisoners do not appear to be declining, Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass said. In 2019 and 2020, the Ombudsman began investigating complaints about the unreasonable use of force at the Metropolitan Remand Centre and Metropolitan Assessment Prison.

The Federal Ombudsman was established on 3 January 1997. 25 years on, more and more people are calling on them for help. In 2021, they opened 8,202 new files. That is a 9 % increase compared to 2020 and a 20 % increase compared to 2019. That rise was due to the corona crisis which continues to take its toll on the relationship between citizens and the public administrations.
