IOI | President Field meets Secretary General of the OECD

Following his official visit to the Republic of Austria, President Field undertook a brief official visit to Paris to meet with the Secretary General of the OECD, Mr Mathias Cormann.

Economic co-operation and development are absolute cornerstones of human dignity. Without them, the institutions of democracy cannot be funded, nor essential civic infrastructure, nor vital social justice programs.

President Field discussed with the Secretary General the work of the International Ombudsman Institute, and its more than 200 members from over 100 countries, in supporting good governance and the rule of law through work on anti-corruption measures, integrity, transparency and good governance. Adherence to the rule of law reduces sovereign risk and encourages the private capital investment that is essential to strong economies and caring, successful societies.

This exchange will now be followed by further work at senior officer level between the OECD and the IOI, with the first meeting scheduled for late June. It will also build on important work already undertaken by the OECD and the European Ombudsman (and informed by the IOI and its members): see: The Role of Ombudsman Institutions in Open Government
