Ombudsman investigation into operational arrangements for statutory visits under Justices of the Peace Visit Programme
Ombudsman Winnie Chiu announced the completion of the direct investigation into the operational arrangements for statutory visits under the Justices of the Peace Visit Programme (“JP Visit Programme”). The Ombudsman made 13 recommendations for improvement to the Administration Wing, the Correctional Services Department, the Immigration Department, the Hospital Authority, and the Social Welfare Department.

Rapport annuel d’activité 2024 : la Défenseure des droits appelle à un sursaut collectif face aux ruptures de droits
Les 140 996 réclamations et demandes d’informations et orientations reçues par l’institution et les travaux réalisés au cours de l’année 2024 traduisent, une nouvelle fois, une augmentation des atteintes aux droits en France. Alors que les discriminations augmentent, l’ampleur du taux de non-recours témoigne d’un renoncement face à la promesse républicaine d’égalité. C’est pourquoi la Défenseure des droits appelle à un sursaut collectif pour prévenir et lutter contre les discriminations.

Assemblée générale d'Ombudsman.be
Le vendredi 21 mars, Marc BERTRAND, Médiateur de la Wallonie et de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, a présidé sa dernière assemblée générale du Réseau belge des ombudsmans, Ombudsman.be. En effet, arrivé au terme de son second mandat et donc après 12 années à la tête de l'institution du Médiateur, Marc BERTRAND cèdera son poste dans les semaines à venir.

La Défenseure des droits, Claire Hédon, rend public un suivi des recommandations de son rapport « Les droits fondamentaux des personnes âgées accueillies en EHPAD », publié en mai 2021. Dix-huit mois plus tard, le bilan reste extrêmement préoccupant et les inquiétudes de la Défenseure des droits demeurent.

The seventh meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Pact against school segregation, promoted by the Catalan Ombudsman and the Department of Education, was held on 10 January 2023. In the course of this meeting, the Progress report on the deployment of Decree 11/2021 was presented.

Christian Britten Lundblad elected new Ombudsman
On 13 March 2025, the Danish Parliament elected Christian Britten Lundblad as new Ombudsman. He is succeeding Niels Fenger, who in October 2024 took up a position as judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union. Christian Britten Lundblad will take over as Ombudsman on 1 May 2025 after a period with High Court Judge Henrik Bloch Andersen as temporary Ombudsman.

Office of the Ombudsman urges women politicians to report injustices
The Office of the Ombudsman has asked women running in the September 2025 General Elections to report any forms of injustices faced in the election process. The Director of Investigations and Research, Ms Martha Kwengwere, said this during a two-day capacity building training aimed at empowering female aspirants for the positions of Member of Parliament and Ward Councilors from the Central Region at Sunbird Capital Hotel, Lilongwe.

Lost in Translation: An Overview report by NIPSO on the provision of Interpretation Services in GP Practices
On 20 March 2025, the Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman (NIPSO) published the first in a series of Overview Reports which review issues that are creating potential barriers to accessing healthcare. The report ‘Lost in translation’ provides an overview assessment of the provision of Interpretation Services in GP Practices – for patients who are not proficient in English.
