New Ombudsman of the City of Cape Town took office
On 1 June 2020 Mr Vusumzi Magwebu took office as the new Ombudsman of the City of Cape Town. He has vast experience in investigations from both private and public sectors. He is a former prosecutor and was also a senior investigator with the office of the Public Protector, South Africa.

Ce lundi 29 juin le Défenseur des droits, Jacques Toubon est intervenu à l’occasion d’un webinaire intitulé « Equality 2020, 20 years of Equality bodies » co-organisé par « Equinet », le réseau européen des organismes de promotion de l’égalité. Réunissant 46 membres issus de 34 pays d’Europe, majoritairement des bureaux d’Ombudsman ou des commissions pour les droits humains, Equinet entend promouvoir l’égalité en Europe, et ce en soutenant les actions et travaux des organismes nationaux de promotion de l’égalité.

Hungarian Ombudsman Ákos Kozma visits the Austrian Ombudsman Board
On Monday, 30 October 2023, Ombudsperson Gaby Schwarz welcomed the Hungarian Ombudsman Ákos Kozma at the Austrian Ombudsman Board. During the work meeting, they agreed to deepen bilateral cooperation. Similar to the Austrian Ombudsman Board, the Hungarian institution also functions as a National Human Rights Institution and a National Preventive Mechanism.

In 2019, the reform of local self-government and territorial organization of government continued in Ukraine. The process of forming the amalgamated territorial communities brought about the issue of the ability of local self-government bodies to ensure the observance, realization and protection of rights of citizens to social protection, healthcare, work, education and culture.
