New GANHRI Chairperson vows to defend national human rights institutions
Dr Freddy Carrión Intriago, Ombudsman of Ecuador, was elected to the role by GANHRI members through an online voting procedure that concluded on 27 October 2020. This election follows the end of Carlos Alfonso Negret Mosquera’s term as Ombudsman of Colombia and as former Chairperson of GANHRI since March 2019.

Ombudsman Hong Kong announces results of own-motion investigations
The Ombudsman of Hong Kong, China, Ms Winnie CHIU, held a press conference on 29 October 2020 to announce the results of two own-motion investigations; one into the maintenance and repair of play and fitness equipment in public rental housing estates and the other one into the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department’s practice of outsourcing street cleansing services.
