2021-07-16Proposed amendments to the Law on the Legal Status of Aliens equated with legalization of human rights violations
Seimas Ombudswoman Milda Vainiutė urged the authorities not to adopt amendments to the Republic of Lithuania Law on the Legal Status of Aliens, that would allow human rights violations and pose a threat to vulnerable migrants. After presenting the assessment of the proposed legal regulation, the Seimas Ombudswoman acknowledged that the draft law contradicts not only human rights, but also Lithuania’s international obligations.

2021-07-15Ombudsman sees more data, police and whistleblower complaints
The Office of the Ombudsman’s annual report for 2020 was made public in Parliament on 14 July 2021. During 2020, the office fielded a total of 332 enquiries from members of the public, opened 231 cases for either investigation or informal resolution and resolved 210 cases. By way of comparison, the office opened 30 more cases overall during 2020 than in 2019, despite the pandemic and government lockdown during the second quarter.

Following the Royal Proclamation Appointment granted by His Majesty the King Mahavajiralongkorn, Mr. Somsak Suwansujarit was appointed Chief Ombudsman of Thailand and Assoc.Prof. Issaree Hunsacharoonroj as Ombudsman of Thailand.

2021-07-09Unlocking Solutions in Imaging: working together to learn from failings in the NHS
The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO) has published a report about complaints related to NHS imaging. It highlights failings in the way X-rays and scans are reported on and followed up across the health service. The report includes recommendations for a system-wide programme of improvements for more effective and timely management of X-rays and scans. Ombudsman Rob Behrens has written to the Government urging it to prioritise improvements to NHS imaging services as part of the health sector's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
