CHRAJ issues advisory on torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment
Due to recent media reports of alleged tortuture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment meted out to two journalists, CHRAJ found it appropriate to issue an Advisory in accordance with the Paris Principles which vest National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) with general responsibility to advise Government, Parliament and other authorities by giving and issuing “opinions, recommendations, proposals and reports”.

Five-year review of BC’s whistleblower law: Ombudsperson proposes targeted amendments
On 19 August 2025, BC Ombudsperson Jay Chalke released four reports to support the Legislative Assembly’s mandatory five-year review of the Public Interest Disclosure Act (PIDA). The reports give legislators real case examples, lessons learned, and proposed amendments to strengthen the Act, based on the Ombudsperson’s experience investigating disclosures of public wrongdoing.

Report about NHRIs and their work on migrants’ human rights
A new report about National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) and their work on migrants’ human rights has been produced by the German Institute for Human Rights on behalf of GANHRI, the Global Alliance of NHRIs. The report highlights examples of NHRIs’ work to promote and protect migrants’ rights, including several practices from Europe.

Ireland and Northern Ireland Ombudsman sign MoU on cross-border bodies
The Northern Ireland Public Services Ombudsman, Marie Anderson, and the Irish Ombudsman, Peter Tyndall, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to provide for co-operation on complaints about North-South Implementation Bodies. The MoU will ensure that users of public services, both north and south of the Ireland/Northern Ireland border, will be able to have complaints investigated efficiently by the appropriate independent Ombudsman.

Ombudsman Sindh and Legal Aid Society join hands to expand access to justice
In a significant step toward enhancing legal empowerment and public grievance redressal, the Office of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh and the Legal Aid Society entered into a Memorandum of Understanding at a formal ceremony held on 30th July, 2025 at the Ombudsman Sindh Office. The agreement outlines mutual cooperation in key areas such as complaint referral systems, legal assistance for underserved communities, joint public awareness campaigns, and capacity-building programs aimed at strengthening institutional outreach.

Tender for IOI regional subsidies 2025/2026
The IOI Board of Directors decided at their Board meeting held in Rabat in May 2025 to continue the regional subsidy programme for the membership year 2025/2026. Voting members in good standing wishing to apply for regional subsidies can submit project proposals until 30 September 2025.

Launching of Ombudsman's Annual report 2024
Following submission of his 51st Annual Report 2024 to His Excellency, the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Harry Ganoo, G.O.S.K, Ombudsman launched his report, covering the period of 1 January to 31 December 2024 on 10 July 2025 to the Press during an event held at the Conference Room of the Ombudsman’s Office in the presence of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs responsible for Human Rights.

Ombudsperson visited municipality of Leposavic
On Thursday, 10 July 2025, the Ombudsperson, Mr. Naim Qelaj, visited the village of Leshak in Leposavic and met with the residents who submitted their complaints regarding the notification by the municipal authorities for the release of public property on which 12 houses are built.
