In a significant step toward enhancing legal empowerment and public grievance redressal, the Office of the Provincial Ombudsman Sindh and the Legal Aid Society (LAS) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a formal ceremony held on 30th July, 2025 at the Ombudsman Sindh Office.
The MoU was signed by Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, and Justice (R) Arif Hussain Khilji, Chief Legal Advisor of LAS. The agreement outlines mutual cooperation in key areas such as complaint referral systems, legal assistance for underserved communities, joint public awareness campaigns, and capacity-building programs aimed at strengthening institutional outreach.
During the event, Justice (R) Arif Hussain Khilji provided an overview of the Legal Aid Society and its Sindh Legal Advisory Call Centre (SLACC), a 24/7 service that connects citizens across the province with experienced legal professionals over the phone, offering free legal guidance. He appreciated the Office of the Ombudsman Sindh for its prompt and effective resolution of public complaints, adding that individuals associated with LAS have consistently expressed satisfaction and admiration for the Ombudsman’s office, particularly for its swift and fair redressal of public grievances against provincial government departments.
Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput highlighted the core mandate of the Ombudsman’s Office in delivering free and timely justice in matters related to maladministration in government departments. He reiterated the office's commitment to administrative transparency, citizen facilitation, and people-centric service delivery.
The ceremony was attended by senior officers from both institutions, including Syed Mansoor Abbas Rizvi (Secretary), Mr. Naseemuddin Mirani (Director General-I), Mr. Imtiaz Bhatti (Director General-II), Ms. Rehana G. Ali Memon (Advisor), Mr. Muhammad Akmal Naseem (Consultant), Mr. Masood Ishrat (Registrar), Mr. Imdad Hussain Siddiqui (Director Coordination; & Climate & Disaster Justice Unit), and Ms. Rukhsana Parveen (Senior Programme Manager, LAS).
The partnership marks a progressive collaboration aimed at reinforcing inclusive access to justice, fostering institutional synergy, and promoting public trust in fair, transparent, and accountable grievance mechanisms.
