On 20 February 2025, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the Government’s arrangements for the recovery, refurbishment and reallocation of public rental housing flats, and has made 19 major recommendations for improvements to the Housing Department and the Hong Kong Housing Society.

The Honorable Ombudsman for the Republic of Malawi, Grace Tikambenji Malera, has called for a structured relationship with Civil Society Organizations in the country over their mutual responsibilities of enforcing the law. Ms Malera said this when her office hosted a delegation of leaders of the National Alliance Against Corruption and the Citizen Alliance.

2025-02-13Report on the monitoring of the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, tabled in Parliament
On 5 February 2025, the NSW Ombudsman’s report monitoring the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, was tabled in Parliament. The NSW Ombudsman has a statutory role to monitor the administration of the Mandatory Disease Testing Act 2021, providing for mandatory blood testing of a person whose bodily fluids have come into contact with those of a public sector worker in a work context.

On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Lazio Region Civic Defender, a major international event will be held in Rome, organized by Marino Fardelli, President of the Italian Civic Defenders, Civic Defender of the Lazio Region, and member of the European Board of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI). Adding further prestige to the initiative will be the general audience with Pope Francis on the morning of April 9, during which participants will be welcomed by the Holy Father.

In the report ‘The progress of NSW’s inmate discipline system reform’, which was tabled on 2 March 2026, the NSW Ombudsman has called on the Minister for Corrections to respond to concerns that insufficient steps have been taken in due time to reform the inmate discipline system in response to the Ombudsman’s 2024 investigation.
