2025-05-16Celebration of the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman in Angola
On April 22 and 23, 2025, the Central Ceremony and the International Conference marking the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman of the Republic of Angola took place at the Auditorium of the Palace of Justice in Luanda, under the theme: “Ombudsman: 20 Years Serving Citizens and the Democratic Rule of Law”, as part of the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of National Independence. The main objective was to commemorate both the 50th anniversary of Angola’s Independence and the 20th anniversary of the election of the first Ombudsman, and to reflect on the role of the Ombudsman in a democratic state through experience-sharing with national and international public and private entities.

This is the fifth issue of its annual casebook series that provides summaries of complaints this Office has investigated, including the outcomes. It also provides further insights for the agencies involved to consider improving their procedures and processes.

La Comisión Nacional de Derechos Humanos del Yuan de Control celebró una rueda de prensa el 2 de abril de 2025, presidida por la vicepresidenta Wang Yu-ling y con la participación del Dr. Hsin-Huang Michael Hsiao, presidente de la Fundación de Intercambios Taiwán-Asia. Durante el evento se presentaron los resultados de la “Encuesta 2024 sobre la Conciencia Ciudadana en Derechos Humanos” en la que la población insta al Gobierno a priorizar la protección de las personas con discapacidad y la mejora de los derechos laborales.

2025-05-09The annual Report of the Chancellor of Justice for 2024 released
The Chancellor of Justice Tuomas Pöysti has submitted his report for 2024 to the Parliament and the Government. In 2024, a total of 1987 complaints were filed with the Chancellor of Justice while 2084 complaints were resolved. In the previous year, the Office of the Chancellor of Justice received 1668 complaints and resolved 1862. In 2024, the Chancellor of Justice continued the efforts to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of legality oversight focusing more strongly on structural oversight. A total of 43 in-house initiatives were launched by the Chancellor of Justice in 2024.

The Fushoushan Veterans Farm, affiliated to the Veteran Affairs Council, was found to have committed violations in the handling of business waste. In addition, both Fushoushan and Wuling Veterans Farms were found to have engaged in improper pesticide use. On March 20, 2025, the Control Yuan Committee on Foreign and National Defense Affairs approved the investigation report submitted by CY members Fan Sun-Lu, Lin Wen-Cheng, and Upay Radio Kanasaw.

2025-05-02Swedish Parliamentary Ombudsmen submit Annual report to Parliament
Every year, the Ombudsman submits a report to the Riksdag. It is a report on the authority's activities in the previous year, together with a selection of the ombudsmen's decisions. In accordance with the instructions of the Riksdag's ombudsmen, the Ombudsman must submit a report to the Riksdag by 15 March each year for the period 1 January - 31 December of the previous year. The summary of the report is now available in English.

On 16 April 2025, the Ombudsman, Mr Jack Chan, announced the completion of a direct investigation operation into the Government’s regulation of occupational safety and health in the construction industry, with 40 major recommendations for improvement made to the Labour Department, the Buildings Department and the Development Bureau.

2025-04-25Inspector’s report on Southern Queensland Correctional Centre released
Under the Inspector of Detention Services Act 2022 (IDS Act) the Queensland Ombudsman, Mr Anthony Reilly, is also the Inspector of Detention Services (Inspector). Under the IDS Act, the Inspector must inspect each prison in Queensland every five years and release a report about the inspection. The report makes 37 recommendations for areas of improvement for the women’s prison.
