On 24 April 2025, the members of the Association of African Ombudsman and Mediators (AOMA) held their 30th Executive Committee Meeting in Luanda, Angola, with the aim of discussing various issues facing the organisation.
In her message, AOMA President and Ombudsman Florbela Rocha Araújo acknowledged the organisation's challenges and progress and encouraged members to contribute their resources in order for the Association to reach higher heights.
AOMA's Secretary General and Zambia's Ombudsman, Caroline Sokoni, emphasised the need for greater unity among members in order to maintain the Association's cohesion.
Delivering the opening speech at the meeting, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Bravo Conde da Silva Mendonça, who spoke on behalf of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Téte António, reaffirmed the Angolan state's commitment and support for the organisations to which Angola belongs.
During the meeting, whose agenda was approved with amendments, the members took note of the activity reports of the President of AOMA, the President of the African Ombudsmen Research Centre and the financial aspects of AOMA for the past year.
It was recommended that the Regional Coordinators' Reports be submitted in advance, to allow the documents to be analysed in detail.
At the meeting, a deadline of 20 May was set for members to give their opinion on the proposal to revise the current AOMA Statute, so that it can be analysed in the first week of June.
Another proposal that also met the same deadline was the Renewal of the expired Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Kwazulu-Natal.
The expression of interest in holding the General Assembly, with the appropriate terms of reference, was also another proposal that will receive contributions.
In the end, it was recommended that the resolution be presented by 25 April.
The Executive Committee was attended by the Ombudsmen of Zambia, South Africa, Tanzania, the Representative of Uganda, Mauritius, Benin, Nigeria, Botswana and Malawi.
