Record cases handled by Toronto Ombudsman in 2024 indicate increasing demand for accountability in local government
The City of Toronto’s Ombudsman handled 4,929 cases in 2024, a 43 per cent increase over the previous year and the highest on record. The most common fairness issues stemmed from poor communication, including no or delayed responses and inconsistent or incorrect information from City staff.

Ombudsman Sindh launches collaborative outreach initiative with UN agencies and civil society
Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, chaired a high-level meeting attended by representatives of prominent UN agencies, foreign and local NGOs, community based organizations, local support organizations, and civil society organizations to formally launch the “Awareness and Outreach Program - A Collaborative Initiative.” This initiative is aimed at strengthening public awareness of citizens’ rights, promoting transparency and accountability, and enhancing the visibility and accessibility of grievance redress mechanisms across Sindh.

2024 Annual Report of the Control Yuan is now available in English and Spanish
The English and Spanish versions of the 2024 Annual Report of the Control Yuan (CY) have now been released. In 2024, the CY received 15,342 people’s complaints; issued 283 investigation reports; passed 27 impeachment cases and 1 censure case, as well as proposed 101 corrective measures cases.

Sindh Ombudsman establishes Climate & Disaster Justice Unit
The Provincial Ombudsman Sindh, Mr. Muhammad Sohail Rajput, inaugurated the one-of-its-kind Climate & Disaster Justice Unit, a pioneering initiative to ensure expeditious and justifiable redressal of complaints stemming from climate-related and man-made disasters. The Unit will be a fast-paced mechanism resolving issues of delay, corruption, or neglect in relief, rehabilitation and public service delivery. It will be working on safeguarding vulnerable groups, inclusive governance, and coordination with UN agencies, NGOs, and civil society.

Parliamentary Ombudsman holds Thematic Lecture on Transparency, Fairness and Accountability as cornerstones of good administration
On 12 June 2025, the Office of the Ombudsman in Malta officially launched its 30th Anniversary commemorations with a Thematic Lecture held at the Plenary Hall of the House of Representatives. Entitled “Transparency, Fairness, Accountability: Cornerstones of Good Administration – The Mandate of the Ombudsman,” the lecture brought together Members of Parliament, senior public officials, civil servants, academics, civil society representatives, and other stakeholders for a timely reflection on the essential values that underpin good governance and public administration.

Las Defensorías NNyA promueven la creación de Defensorías y la designación del Defensor del Niño de la Nación
Defensores y Defensoras de Niñas, Niños y Adolescentes de las Provincias de Córdoba, La Pampa, Misiones, Santa Fe y Santiago del Estero –con el apoyo de UNICEF Argentina– se reunieron este lunes y martes en el 1° Encuentro Nacional de Defensoras y Defensores de Derechos de niñas, niños y adolescentes realizado en la ciudad de Posadas, Misiones. El objetivo del encuentro fue generar un espacio de intercambio de experiencias, lecciones aprendidas y buenas prácticas en la promoción y protección de derechos de la niñez desde el ámbito defensorial y acordar un plan de trabajo común entre las cinco Defensorías específicas de niños, niñas y adolescentes.

Office of the Ombudsman Punjab’s Training Visit to the Ombudsman Institution of Türkiye
The Office of the Ombudsman Punjab deputed a six-member delegation to participate in a specialized training programme hosted by the Ombudsman Institution of Türkiye in Ankara from 4–8 May 2026. The visit was organized under the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Ombudsman Association (OICOA) and provided a valuable platform for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best practices in the field of administrative justice and public grievance redressal.

National Ombudsman held Conference on EU's Migration and Asylum Pact in Rotterdam
On June 12, 2026, the Pact on Migration and Asylum will enter into force. With the Pact, the European Union (EU) aims to reform European asylum and migration policy. Nine new EU regulations and one new EU directive have been adopted. For the National Ombudsman / IOI European Regional President, Reinier van Zutphen, a reason to organize an informal meeting where participants could exchange their experience so far with the implementation of the Migration Pact.

Rome, capitale de la défense civique : clôture de la Conférence internationale des Ombudsman 2026
La Conférence internationale des Ombudsman Rome 2026, organisée par la Coordination nationale des Défenseurs civiques italiens et le Défenseur civique de la Région Latium, s’est achevée avec une large participation et des résultats significatifs. L’événement a réuni dans la capitale des représentants des institutions de défense civique provenant de nombreux pays, ainsi que des représentants des administrations publiques, du monde académique et des organisations engagées dans la protection des droits fondamentaux.
