    NSW Ombudsman Bruce Barbour leaves office

    The current term of office of New South Wales Ombudsman Bruce Barbour ended on 30 June 2015. After 15 years in office, Mr Barbour will be succeeded by Prof. John McMillan, who will commence a two year term as Acting Ombudsman on 1 August 2015.

    Study visit of Macedonian delegation at Austrian Ombudsman Board

    A delegation of the Macedonian NPM and the Macedonian Ombudsman visited the Austrian Ombudsman Board (AOB) as part of a “Twinning-Light”-Project. The Macedonian Delegation had the chance to learn about the work of the Austrian NPM, when dealing with Asylum-seekers and migrants. The Twinning-Light-Project is co-organised by the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Human Rights and co-funded by the EU.

    Agriculture Government of Sindh pays cost differential to complainant

    The complainant approached Provincial Ombudsman Sindh Mr. Asad Ashraf Malik with the issue that Agriculture Department awarded contract to his firm for construction of road for improvement of Cane Yard. The construction work was carried out as per Public Works Department rules with clear provision that in case of cost escalation the differential would be borne the department but the Agriculture Department refused.

    Residential facilities providing care without authorisation

    The office of the Ombudsman published its 2015 report on systematic visits carried out by the public defender of rights. This report list the risks (ill-treatment of clients) posed by facilities providing care without authorisation (the “unregistered residential social services facilities”) and explain why good co-operation among all governmental authorities is necessary to penalise these facilities.

    Ontario Ombudsman marks decade of progress in 2014/2015 Annual Report

    Ontario Ombudsman André Marin today released his tenth annual report, marking the end of an historic year – and decade – that saw the largest investigation in the history of the office, the enactment of legislation extending the Ombudsman’s mandate to municipalities, school boards and universities, and an 86% increase in complaints received since 2009-2010.

    It is with great sorrow that the International Ombudsman Institute has learned that Roy Gregory, Emeritus Professor of Politics, died in London on 14 July 2015. In his scholarly work Prof. Gregory made a significant contribution to promoting and developing the concept of Ombudship.     The Public Service Ombudsman in Gibraltar has been appointed by HM Government of Gibraltar to be the Competent Authority for Gibraltar for the purposes of the Consumer (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Regulations 2015.
