FRA presents report on achievements 2014
The annual report of the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) for 2014 examines fundamental rights-related developments in equality and non-discrimination; racism, xenophobia and related intolerance; Roma integration; asylum, borders, immigration and integration; information society, privacy and data protection; the rights of the child; access to justice including rights of crime victims; and the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and its use by Member States. Federal Ombudsman redresses 152,000 complaints
The Federal Ombudsman’s office has decided complaints filed by 152,000 Pakistanis living abroad over the past two years and at present there is no complaint pending a decision. Moreover, it has been decided that video link facility will be provided to overseas Pakistanis for the hearing of their complaints.

Ombudsman Punjab constitutes Jails Inspection Committees
Ombudsman Punjab Javed Mahmood, in the light of the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, has constituted Ombudsman Jail Inspection Committees for all districts and tehsils of the province. Ombudsman Jail Inspection Committees at district and tehsil level have made first inspection visit of district/tehsil sub-jails and started preparing report on the state of affairs of the jails for onward submission to Supreme Court.

A reprimand for the violation of a teacher's freedom of speech was issued to the headmaster of an upper comprehensive school by Parliamentary Ombudsman Petri Jääskeläinen. He requests the municipality to consider how this violation of freedom of speech could be redressed and how the teacher could be compensated.

Ombudsman presents second Annual Report
The Bahrain Ombudsman, the first Independent Ombudsman in the Region, presented his second Annual Report. In the period from 1 May 2014 to 30 April 2015, the Office received 908 complaints and requests for assistance. This is an increase of 375% compared with the previous year's total of 242.

MDAC research on access to justice for children with mental disabilities
The Mental Disability Advocacy Center (MDAC), an international human rights organisation based in Budapest, recently completed a 2-year European multi-country research project on access to justice for children with mental disabilities. The project was designed to strengthen access to justice and legal remedies for children with intellectual or psycho-disabilities who have been victims of human rights violations.
