2026-06-05The State Comptroller and Ombudsman presented the Ombudsman Annual Report for the year 2025 to the Speaker of Parliament
On May 18, 2026 the State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel Mr. Matanyahu Englman presented to the Speaker of the Knesset (Israeli parliament) Ombudsman Annual Report 52 for the year 2025. Over 30,000 complaints were received in 2025 - double the number received seven years earlier.

2026-05-29High-level panel on the importance of Ombudsman institutions’ compliance with the Venice Principles
On 18 May 2026, the President of the UN General Assembly, Ms Annalena Baerbock, convened a high-level panel at the UN Headquarters in New York on the importance of Ombudsman institution’s compliance with the Venice Principles in accordance with General Assembly resolution 79/177. The panel discussion featured Ms. Nadine Mailloux, IOI President and Ombudsman of Montreal, Ms. Angie Cruickshank Lambert, Ombudswoman of the Republic of Costa Rica, and Mr. Rafael Bustos Gisbert, Spanish Member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. The Israel Ombudsman’s Office has released a report focusing on complaints regarding municipal property tax, a compulsory local tax that affects households and businesses across the country. It reflects common difficulties encountered by residents in their dealings with municipal tax authorities, including issues related to receiving statutorily mandated discounts and the accurate calculation of the tax.

El 31 de marzo de 2026, el miembro y convocante del Comité de Asuntos Judiciales y de Administración Penitenciaria del Yuan de Control, el presidente interino del Yuan de Control y otros 11 miembros del Yuan de Control realizaron una visita de inspección al Yuan Judicial. Acompañados por el presidente interino del Yuan Judicial, la comitiva escuchó presentaciones sobre las actividades del Yuan Judicial, el sistema de evaluación de abogados y la supervisión de notarios privados. Posteriormente se mantuvo un coloquio.

2026-04-30European Ombudsman annual report for 2025 shows steep rise in complaints
European Ombudswoman Teresa Anjinho’s annual report for 2025 shows that the number of complaints handled by the office rose by 54 percent (from 2264 to 3490) compared to 2024 and that the number of inquiries rose by 19 percent (from 415 to 492). The steep rise is believed to be in part due to AI tools suggesting the Ombudsman when people look for help in relation to the EU administration.

On 18 May 2026 from 3pm to 6pm (GMT-4), the President of the UN General Assembly will convene a high-level panel at the UN Headquarters in New York on “The importance of complying with the Venice Principles for Ombudsman institutions to strengthen the institutions’ independence and autonomy and create an enabling environment to perform their mandate nationally and internationally”. The IOI will be represented by IOI President Nadine Mailloux. The event will be live streamed in all 6 official UN languages on the UN Web TV Website and a recorded video will be available in English and original language after the event. The Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has launched its new five-year strategy, marking a renewed commitment to delivering fair and impartial justice for individuals and a greater focus on its role in improving public services. The new strategy, running from April 2026 to March 2031, sets out a vision to become a more established and influential voice in public service improvement, raising standards and driving system-level change across the NHS, government departments and other public bodies.
