On May 18, 2026 the State Comptroller and Ombudsman of Israel Mr. Matanyahu Englman presented to the Speaker of the Knesset (Israeli parliament) Ombudsman Annual Report 52 for the year 2025. Over 30,000 complaints were received in 2025 - double the number received seven years earlier.
56% of the complaints were found justified.
72% of the complainants expressed satisfaction with the Ombudsman's service.
The Ombudsman Office received 7,000 complaints in 2025 regarding subsidizing day care for working parents. 91% of the complaints were found justified. The Ombudsman indicated to the Labor Ministry that it should provide quality service to its constituents, and outlined the findings in a series of letters and meetings.
Following are two examples of intervention by the Ombudsman to assist complainants.
- The Unemployment Compensation Board denied a nursery teacher's unemployment request as she didn't meet the eligibility criteria. The investigation revealed that the complainant technically met the guidelines and the complainant received six months of compensation.
- The Social Security Administration required a person officially certified as blind to appear before a medical tribunal as a prerequisite to paying a monthly disability stipend. After the Ombudsman's intervention the stipend was paid without requiring the complainant to appear before the tribunal. The Administration refined its rules regarding stipend payments to blind individuals.
